@!#$...well that makes me really sad...
i guess all my money is going straight to the cav
you have to go to dmv and get special paper work when buying a car from canada. i know because i went and asked when i was thinking about a sunfire. they have the paper work.
the problem your going to have is getting it registered, passing smog, and the biggest one is passing the safety crash tests. i think thats the big reason why we never got it.
someone can correct me on this, but i think once a car is either 10 or 20 years old, then theres a catch where that isnt needed?
your best bet would be to go to the dmv and just ask

Well, you can certanily drive it home. The question is whether you can register it when you get there.
I belive the R33 and maybe the R32 are legal, only if you change over a bunch of parts to make it so. There is a process of legalization (that costs a pretty penny). Motrex used to do it, but are now defunked.
I would do some serious searching and asking the DMV before buying it.

Just move to Canada, then you don't have to worry about bringing it acorss the border.
Unless you want to make it a track only car.

well if you live in cleveland, im gonna have to come over and drive it when you get it home

You can only get certain models in Canada right now. I believe that they have to be 15 years or older. Then you have to register it, im not sure if you can just bring it across the boarder. Unless you want a track car
Only the R33 is legal in the US. When Motorex was doing everything, he was using the results for the R33 to pass in both the R32 and R34s. But check into it anyway, see what the DMV says. Worse comes to worse, you just loose some time, before you spend all that money

uhhh where have you been? motorex was shut down awhile ago
motorex shut down
the problem is making it legal.. passing the crash tests to its safe, and making it pass smog.
1) register it as a kit car (value drops)
2) keep it as a track only car
3) spend alot of money and get it legal.
US and japan test for different things in smog.

i had a freind import a 95 r32 gt-r from japan. spent about 30gs between buying the car with very low km. getting it shipped, then getting it here legal. he went through a company out of the northeast to get this done. if you figure, new evo/sti vs. 95 skyline... tough call....
hmm ya im gonna do alot more research because i find some real nice gt-r's in a canadian forum and they only are asking like 10 grand for it...so i'd spend 10 grand on the car plus the things to make it legal here..
because this would be my dream car for sure

Yea, I know Motorex was shut down, due to the owner making false documents to get JDM cars into the states, among other things. Hence why I used the word "When Motorex".... instead of "Motorex".

I know for Canada you can't import a car not built to meet Us or Canadian regulations unless its 15 years or older, thats how GTR's are allowed.
Check with your state registration office and see what the rules are for importing cars. If you have a 10/15/20 year clause your prally fine, if not it may need modifications to be permitted or not allowed at all.
It can be Done.. My Friend has a R33. Spent around 20G's for it tho.
how did your friend get the car over? i mean 20,000 is alot but i wouldnt mind paying that much for a 1992 GT-R R32, it comes 4WD and Twin Turbo
There's got to be a way. I saw one around Orlando, FL area. It wasn't a conversion kit either. Its definitely weird seeing the guy drive from the right side.

do you take in a count anything else besides the cost of a car? 20k on a car that is nearly 16yrs old is alot. not to mention since it is such a rare car, parts are going to be hard to come buy and insurance is probably going to be expensive for someone your age with an awd twin turbo car. its nice to dream but in realitly is alot more money then what it seems. 16yr old cars are going to have problems and whos to say the previous owner didnt destroy and beat the piss out of it.

is it really just as simple as registering it as a kit car?
Says the guy driving a Mini.
My Sunfire is my project car as of the summer (buying a second used J), I'll let you know how much cash I drop into it.

2002 Sunfire -->
- Ractive steering wheel
- ASA 17" EM9 + Nexen N5000 215/45/17 (steelies for winter)
- D-Spec Lowering kit @ 1.4" (issues currently
)
- Rockford P250.1 + MTX MZS1004 + Panasonic CQ-C8313U head unit
- Barely legal tint.
Okay...
1. The only strain of Skyline GT-R that is legal in the US is the R-33.
2. The only way to get it into the US is to have it imported by a licensed importer, and then you have to homologate it to US crash laws (which is at least $8000 last I heard)
You're going to have to pay a TON of money to homologate it, you're going to pay a premium for the car, and you'll have to pay shipping that's exorbitant.
If you want a car that bad, either move up here (we don't have to homologate if it's over 15 years), or try and buy one of the ones that were grandfathered in. Registering the vehicle as a kit car is a fast way to have the plates yanked.. it was already given a VIN.
