Hey --
My GF has a '00 explorer that has a bad tire on it and no spare to use.
Her dad has a wrecked '04 explorer in their garage hes not gotten fixed yet.
We want to know if we can swap wheels (since the '04 has a good set of wheels/tires)
The '00 has 255/70 r16
The '04 has 245/64 r17
Will this swap work? The bolt pattern is the same so I assume its all good, but Im unsure with the difference in wheel/tire size that the final OD will be the same for the speedo etc.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks!
maybe take his spare tire off his 04?
I would swap the 04 rims over and see. Speedo might be off. Not sure on the other side effects.
well there is no such tires size as a 245/64/17
assuming you mistyped that and mean 245/65/17 yes you can use them.
Its close enough to where you will not notice a difference in the speedometer. At 60 mph it will only be off by 1 mph... pretty much the equivalent of bald tires lol
Yea I did mistype, its 65 not 64.
I was going to take the spare off the '04, but I didnt want to have one tire that was a different size than the other 3.
We swapped all 4 over and kept a spare from the '00 (the '04 has 3 legs and a jack haha).
It looks sweet with the chrome '04 wheels, and it runs about 1mph off at 60 like you said, but its no big deal to me at all.
Thanks for the help fellas
since the pattern is the same your fine, you can always change the tires later on if you want. with my 92 Escort i swapped the steel 14" wheels for alloy 15" wheels off a 00 -02 ZX2 and i dont see any change in my speedo at all
