Well a friend of mine got side swiped by someone. The car needs a new fender and front clip as well. She put the car in drive and i could see the axle spinning but the car wont move.
Are there any special tools i need to replace an axle? anyone know how to do it? does the axle just snap in and out or what?
I have a good set of multiple tools such as ratchets and sockets and wrenches, screwdrivers, and what not. is there anything special i need at all? im doing her a favor in replacing it and would like to help out in doing so.
also if someone knows of a driver side fender or front clip around northern IL, let me know.
search ford escort forums on google.Their's a fairly large community such as with the j-bodys,just not quite as large.
Good luck.

You basically take off the wheel, loosen the hub nut (easy to do with air tools), unbolt the balljoint(s)/strut (however the front end is set up), remove spindle, and pull the axle out of the tranny. Sounds easy, is actually harder than that, but still fairly straightforward to do.
yeah im on that forum, doesnt sound too bad really. i know the axle is broke right at the wheel since i can see it spinning in there.
A puller helps ALOT, if not use a prybar, carefully. If there is a seal in there you might as well replace it as well.

yeah im getting quite a few pointers over on that site. i just want to help her out and get the car running is all.
I made a tool to do axles.
a long metal pole with a smashed in end. it's curved to fit right next to the axle lttle tap and they pop right out. All to eeasy.
