hey whats up, i know on j-bodies you need to rewire the car especially if your going from lets say a 2200 motor to an ecotec
but on hondas, do you need to rewire the cars at all, because my friend seems to think all you do is drop the motor in it and its fine..
but you dont need a new transmission, new wiring, new axles, nothing??

Different motors, different electronics. The fact that its a jbody has nothing to do with the need to rewire it.
Depending on what enging he drops, he may not need a new transmission.. but on teh flip side, he may need a new transmission and axles..
also a honda is a thousand times easier to rewire. because of the fact that most people do hondata ecu's anyway. theres only certian trannys that interchange with honda.

Honda's are very interchangeable. Its not too bad if you go from a D series to a D series or a B series to a B series. Its when you swap from B to D etc.. Get what I'm saying? Check out Honda-Tech.com. I was looking at buying a 94 Civic 5-speed as a beater. Its got a SOHC D-Series non-vtec motor in it. I thought about putting the motor from an EX in it. In which case the motor would swap out fine. Hardest part is wiring up vtec but even thats not so bad. Transmission transaxles and everything bolt right up.

There are a few companies out there that make direct drop kits for Hondas. By far the best way to go....you get motor, trans, wiring, ECU, axles....everything....if I remember....a B16A1 swap can be had for about $1700 CDN.

The cars are pretty easy to swap motors in and out of, but there is still some wiring that is going to be involved. More info would be great though. What motor does he have now? what motor is he getting? Vtec or non? This is all stuff that is needed for the best answers.

hondas are really easy to rewire because most of the wires are color coated
there is a website with a chart that has all the swaps for every honda and thells you all the needed info
Never a direct drop in for ANY motor. As said before same series motors can usually directly swap fine. But when changing series motors (for instance B-series to D-series) You may need to move and reposition motor mounts, that requires a bit of welding. and depending on what car your using you may need to do some minor modifications to the firewall to clear certain parts of the motor in the engine bay (for me it was getting the starter to clear the firewall on a B18C5). As well as the previously mentioned wiring, and the re-wiring of whatever motor you go with's VTEC.
I know this because all the above mentioned i had to do with my friend to put a JDM Integra Type-R motor (B18C5) in his CRX. That later i bought off of him and had to still do a few more things to get it just right. Be careful where you live too, this was in California and I eventually sold it because it got way to hard and expensive to get it smogged illegally.
It's a process. And it's the difference between a ricer and a tuner. Tuner gets all the facts, takes their time and does it right, a ricer buys the car thinking motors come out and go in as easy as batteries in a flashlight.
