Wheel Adapters???
Tuesday, February 05, 2008 8:02 PM
Hey guys I have a 1992 chevy Suburban with 22" wheels, Im downsizing to a 05 Ford explorer. The explorer's bolt pattern is 5x4.5 (114.3), the Burb's is 5x5. Can someone provide info on the pro's and cons of getting adapters? I know theyll space out the tire an inch or two, but I need to know are they shi**y upgrades or do i need to just buy new rims...thanks all help is appreciated.

what exactly do you want to know about them? the pros is that you get to change lug size, the con is it offsets the wheel, which depending on offset of the rim itself can rolloer skate the wheels which will beat up wheel bearings pretty quick. Some times you need to do some grinding to get everything to sit flush and they do come in different sizes depending on hub bores and what not.

Not to long ago at work I had to put lowering springs, hub adapters and Porsce wheeels on an new 08 R32 for the showroom. They work, they are pretty straight forward, the only thing I can think of that might be an issue is the lug studs, VW doesn't use studs in the hub with lug nuts, its all lug bolts, you may need to trim down the lug studs of something depending on what the hub face on the back of the wheel looks like (alot of the times they indent in between the lug holes)
