Hello All,
I'm kinda' in a dilemma. My daily driver is an '06 GMC Canyon ZQ8, which I bought new and love dearly. I've taken really good care of it, and always taken it to Moore Buick (the selling dealer) or, more recently, Jeff Gordon Chevrolet. I've enjoyed them thus far, until I got the call on Friday afternoon. I had gone by there earlier to pick up my phone charger, they couldn't find the truck anywhere in the shop. (Maybe it was in the BODY shop?!) Theycalled me laterand told me they had an accident, that the truck had been damaged by the lift on the rocker panel on the left side. This was at 4:45PM. I arrived at the dealer at five o'clock to inspect the damage. They had a little difficulty locating the truck once again, and I was escorted to the body shop and find my truck strapped to the frame machine. The door sill was pushed in, sanded down to metal, beat in, and had a peice of metal welded to it. It looks like a fair amount of work to be done in just fifteen minutes. Of Course, they're going to repair it. But should I feel like I'm being swindled? I mean, that's an aweful lot of work to do in such a short amount of time. Shouldn't I have been given a chance to inspect the damage before repairs began? This is going into the sixth day the dealer has had my vehicle. I've had to put off my honeymoon since my truck's been down. I feel like JG's giving me the shaft. :C
I've been such a Gordon fan, too. Lol.
I understand things like this happen, but what gets me is the inability for me to inspect the damage prior to work beginning. From all I know, it happend sometime early Friday morning and they worked until five trying to get it repaired. What should I do? It's been six days without my ride, it's now damaged (GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! >:C), and since they had the door off (WITH NO PLASTIC to protect the interior), my seats will forever smell like a body shop. What the heck do I do? Get a lawyer, or try to handle it myself? My father in law has done body for a long time, and it's damned near impossible to get pinch-welds perfect again. :C
Jeff Gordon Chevrolet = FAIL.

sorry to hear about that, but......Other Cars maybe? or try your regional forum...maybe someone local to you has had experience with them.
coming back in 2008...
id at least consult a lawyer to see what they say, sounds like some shady stuff was going on if your car was strapped to a frame machine. Sounds to me like maybe it wasnt damaged by the lift, but actually maybe fell off.
tell them to stop work immediately, they should not of started work without your being there and signing that they may start the repair work. Tell them they better get you a new truck to replace this one or that they will hear from your lawyer. Nobody is allowed to perform any work on your vehicle without having signed consent from you.

Id give anything to have my vehicle smell like that, I love the smell of bodyshops
But Im with Titus on this one. Obviously you didnt bring the truck there for bodywork so why the fu(k do they think they can start doing it without your consent..... especially if they caused the damage
Lol....exactly. I've got a meeting with the service manager in the morning. I've been in a tizzy since this all started. I've just got this feeling like someone over at Hendrick is trying to slip me the suasage....=X
I'm going with the 'it fell off the lift" theory. I mean.....frame machines are pretty serious devices. Lol. I'll keep you guys posted.

as much as i hate faggy gordun , you make the damage sound small , if they are able fix it quickly that also says it prob wasnt very big , granted hard to say with out pics (which if you got um up)
ida made sure they gave ya a rental , and a bunch of free oil changes or something for the inconvenience of not having your vehicle and being ready on time , and for the damage

Probably thought they could get it done before you came back, and then realized it was more that they could fix in such a short time. They definately mush pay for a rental/loaner. If they jerk you around...I'd use the words lawyer & law suit a few times.

I would take a tape recoder with you and when he starts to talk to you explain to him that you will be taping the conversation with him. Also deffently get a lawyer and tell them to stop work immediatly till you find out whats going on and who did it?
Make sure they cough up at least a dozen "pine tree" air fresheners!!! LOL.
You broke it, you bought it.

huh.. we do software for that company.. they are on Reynolds and Reynolds... intresting.
**changes are here**
Well....I went to get the Canyon today and it wasn't right. Very, very poor attempt at repair. Lol. It's kinda' like the warranty tickets we always get. Noone wants to touch them, and then they rush through them. But hell...I told them that they had one more shot to fix it right. They said it'd be done tomorrow. Lol. Well... we'll see.
I wish I did get pictures.
Never really got to see it before it was repaired. :/ Fail.

First, in a calm and reasonable manner tell them that you no longer wish to own that particular vehicle. You WILL NOT be speaking with your insurance agent, but you will take your pick of the same vehicle on the lot, and pay the precise same amount (or less) for it as you did your current vehicle less what ever your current payments total for the truck.
You will not tell this to the body shop manager, the sales manager or any low-level manager. You will tell this to the Owner/President of the dealership, no one else. You will also explain to that person alone that you are only going to give them the offer to settle this amicably once, if you have a way to do it, record the conversation and tell the other party that you're doing it.
If the damage is that bad that they require it to be on a frame-straightener, you don't want that truck back (I speak from experience).
If they refuse, tell them you will be doing the following, in the following order:
- Contact the police to get an incident report #,
- Contact your insurance agent with the incident report #,
- File a complaint with GM's regional rep,
- Contact the closest media outlet with an Ombudsman or "Problem Solver" segment,
- Consult a Lawyer regarding an amicable outcome (meaning you get a new vehicle).
Stick to that plan, and follow through. If they screwed it up THAT badly, they should be able to make it right, but in all honesty, if they have already tried to cover up their damages: You're basically dealing with people that are shady, and you're going to want to gather as much evidence of that if push comes to shove and you have to take it to court.
Good luck!
GAM ftw on this one. You do NOT want a truck back that was in perfect shape when dropped off for mechanical work, and ended up in their body shop on a frame machine. The big kicker in this whole ordeal is that THEY caused the damage. AND everyone is right that without your consent, they cannot perform any work on your car.
Say, if they were changing your oil and found that the drain plug was stripped and needed to be replaced for $3.50, they would need to call you and get the go-ahead first. No matter what the work is, if it wasn't on the original work order, they cant do it.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
WTF, Butt sex is not like sticking your finger in a jelly donut. -Alexis
Thanks so much for the input. That's what I was looking for. I've always had a bad problem with not being able to be a prick to people. Lol. What's right is right, what's wrong is wrong. I'm just looking for whats best for me, since they caused the damage.
We'll see tomorrow! I'll keep you guys posted.

Well, no luck getting the truck back today. I called GM Customer Service and they've been great. I hope everything works out tommarow.

ouch man that sucks
hey are you on any of the colorado/canyon sites?
if not check out

I have a 04 ZQ8 Colorado Crewcab
Yeah, if they need to put your truck on a frame straightner, then it will never drive right again. I used to work at a shop, and you don't damage a truck with a lift and only hit the rocker panel. if anything mechanical parts underneth get damaged. The only real way to damage it (other then hitting the lift) is to drop it off the lift. They should give you a brand new truck with the same amount of payments and the same number of payments. The rest they get to write off on thier insurance, and it probably won't increase thier premiums that much if it is an isolated occurance. I would definatly go right to the top of the chain on this one, record all of the conversations, and if you can't get what you want that way (a brand new truck is the only thing I would settle for), I would absolutly contact one of those lawyer types. If they are dicks about giving you what you want, I am sure that a judge would like to give you a whole bunch of extra money in addition to the new truck since you had to postpone your honeymoon
Sounds to me like you didn't use the GAM Plan of Action...
That disappoints me and lets yourself down too.
I'm wondering the same thing
