Yay build threads! My 240sx build...
Monday, January 21, 2008 6:59 AM
I picked this car up cheap enough, I figured what the hell, lets see what I can do with a new platform. So i bought this car, and the process is starting, and I'll be updating the post as progress comes. Plans are as follows...

Step 1:Buy a half cut for the front. There's a lot of various things missing I'm sure that I don't have. Also, my headlights are busted, my hood has all kinds of cracks in it, and the ub3r body kit front bumper is busted too (oh how I hate fiberglass)

Step 2: Paint You'll see the stock green color on the rocker panel in one of the pictures, I don't intend to re jam it in with a new color, so stock makes the most sense, if i do change, it'll be black.

Step 3:SR20 swap, likely blacktop nothing fancy, maybe build it up to around 230whp or so, no need for anything further at this point

Step 4:Hubs/Brakes/Wheels/tires - Converting to 5 lug hubs, 300zx brakes and a nice lightweight 17" rim/sticky tire (maybe a falken or something who knows, long ways off still)

and on with the pictures...

i researched it...lots of fabrication, new k member, mounts, oil pan and stuff. I don't have the resources here to accomplish that, or the funds to pay someone else to do it. SR20 will do me fine

Paul, do NOT forget to reinforce the unibody: 4 point triangulated and gusseted roll cage, or at LEAST a B-pillar bar.

If I were you, I'd also seam weld the crap out of the unibody if you plan on doing anything race/drift related. The Skyline 5 bolt conversion is a good idea but 300ZX is okay too (they're close to interchangeable anways) And if you plan on doing the conversion, I'd also not half-ass it and put in a good brake set, 4 pots and steel braided lines with a proper Master cylinder.

Good Luck man, if I had money to burn, I'd have snatched that bitch out from under you if given half a chance.

well, some developing circumstances is netting me another running one cheap, so maybe I'll daily drive this other one, and this one can be a track slut, full cage and all. we'll see

Gam...I gotta ask... Are you like 10 smart people who all use the same account? You seem to know way too much for one man. Every topic that comes up, you're just in there with details

Nice project though, I'm jealous....

Nah... I read... A LOT.

I also owned a beater of a 240SX and had researched the hell out of tuning it... and gave up, figured I'd import a 180SX or S13, and gave up... and then a Skyline, and gave up (too expensive). But I ended up with about 30-40 websites booked that detailled parts of my beginning build, stage 2 (etc), and final build. I had a very nice, but very expensive track slut at the end of it.

Actually had stuff priced, but at the time it was in US funds, and Canadian cash was at about 0.65 to the US Dollar.

Now though, I could likely swing it if it weren't for the SE-R. And the ones I posted can be imported into Canada pretty cheaply. Skylines (1993ish GTS) go for about $10,000 all-in landed here.

But... we have to wait for a 15 year-old car.
