Thinking about An Envoy or Trailblazer
Wednesday, January 16, 2008 4:45 PM

Well..the time has come where the Sunfire is no longer practical for my needs.

I want to get either an Envoy or Trailblazer, or perhaps even something else in this class.

Any comments/reviews/stuff I should know about.

i'm thinking about getting an envoy denali too. Gas mileage kind of bothers me though. 16/22 sounds like it's going to be costly.

I drive my parents Envoy all the time. It's nice (fully loaded, leather, third row seats). I like the look of the Envoys better than the Trailblazers, but if I had to get either of the two I would get a Trailblazer SS. If you don't get the SS, get the Envoy. They ride good, handle ok for a bigger suv, and our v6 has pretty good power. Other than the look the Envoy is pretty much a Trailblazer, you just have to decide whether you want a third row and which looks better.

I think they are good solid mid size SUV's. Despite owning a Sierra, I like Chevy better, so go for the Trailblazer.

If you like the way it drives and looks, go for it. The SLT's are nice, my Sierra is an SLT, is it like driving a Caddy, but it's a truck.

I have a TBSS and my mom has an Envoy both are great trucks. Hers drivers amazingly smooth. Gas mileage on mine sucks but thats what happens when you got 400 plus hp (with mods) I love my blazer tho, ive had it for almost 2 years now and still look forward to driving it. Good luck with what you go with.

both my dad and sister have trailblazers and they are great. i use them for whenever i need to pick something up. i love driving it. its very easy to drive for an suv and its very smooth. lots are room in the back too. i fit an engine lift in the back of my sisters trailblazer. only thing i dont like is the gas for it. i guess im use to my cav but when i had to fill my sisters, i put 20 bucks in and it got me just below the half way mark

Anyone who buys an SUV then complains about the gas mileage is a fool. Know that going in, or look for something else if that will be an issue. If not, then buy one, you will not be disappointed, they are nice vehicles.

So I've made up my mind....I'll more than likely get an Envoy....Im not getting the TBSS as I am a university student and don't have that kind of money ATM.

Gas really isn't an issue.

I want the SLT version, nothing else....I feel I deserve leather and heated seats now.

Its just a matter of time before I find one reasonably cheap.

Good job, you won't be disappointed with an Envoy. They are nice. The GF's parents have an 04 Envoy SLT, and love it.

I was the same way, I didn't want anything but the SLT either, I had to have the 4wd to handle my driveway, and drive to work in the winter, but that doesn't mean I wanted to give up the luxury.

Just make sure you set your mind and don't settle, don't let a dealer talk you into an LS, just because it may be a little cheaper.

Whoa, let's not get carried away there. The Trailblazers are very nice SUV's but i wouldn't exactly call 21mpg hwy/15 city "great" gas mileage. It's not awful, but there are more efficent SUV's in this class.

I too would like to hear of a near 300hp SUV that betters 21mpg.

No special editions with an LS7.

21mpg? your impressed with that? You do know that's a Highway driving estimate and at posted speeds right? That would be great if you never speed and lived next to a highway on ramp and everywhere you plan to go to from now on was located right off a highway off ramp.
But sadly that's not how it works. You'll spend A LOT more time driving to the store, or the movies and sitting in traffic...local driving so now that drops down to 15mpg. Again that 15mpg only depends on if you accelerate moderately, and don't get heavy on the gas pedal and not towing or loading up the TB with people and/or stuff. So good luck actually getting 21mpg hwy/15 city ever. Because nobody drives as conservative as the EPA numbers show. So it's cool to have the nearly 300hp and although the "estimated" mileage sounds appealing, 21mpg is not impressive.

And do you plan a lot of drag racing in it or something? why does it need to have nearly 300hp? Because if all you care about is horsepower in your SUV then you may as well pony up and go with the TBSS with 395 hp but doesn't get 21mpg. But if your only wanting it because it's fast...you'll obviously want get on it and that will decrease the mpg ratings as i said before. And if you don't intend to "get on it" ever why do you need the hp? Towing? that lowers the mpg even more...A LOT more.
There are a lot of other midsize options that return better mpg numbers...sure they might only have between 260 to 270hp. But they are just as roomy, more efficient, and lastly just as fast. If that’s your thing.

For example the v-6 Ford Explorer has more base HP than the regular TB with 292 hp but shares TB's 15 mpg / 21 mpg. So if all you’re looking for the "faster" SUV and same mpg...there you go.

If it just looks, well then yeah i have nothing to say about that the TB is still the meanest looking and best looking in this group. I love the TB's simple yet effective design. I seems in this class you either get ugly plain box...or uber swoopy overdone future car that in no why looks like it could even handle a dirt road. In this category the TB owns all...and really the next gen GM mid size SUV's do to The Acadia is no joke And really as it was said before gutty said well:
