Just found a car for my girlfriend, should of probably posted this before she bought it, but i did not have much time.

anyway it's a 98 ford escort, sport edition with the split port engine 2.0L not the z-tech or whatever it was in the zx2, 5 spd manual trans.

only had 68K on it, only 1,900 bucks, and seemed like it was really taken care of.....just wondering if anyone ever had one of these? are they any good? i have herd they were pretty solid cars but seeing if anyone has some expirence with one, thanks.

i had an 89 and 94 wagon and the timing belt snapped on both cars, i think the 89 did it twice
they were decent cars, but id definitely get the belts replaced routinely

i owned a 98 zx2 w/ztech i bought it brand new in 98 it was a horrid POS. i hated everything about that car. i took it to ford sooo many times and they did nothing to help. the car had MANY mechinical probs. The most fun was that the rear main seal blew out in 5 months. anyway good luck.

The Zx2s are pretty much junk...

the 4 doors up to 2000 seem to hold up well...I still see quite a few on the road...


My neighbor has a 99 as his beater...it has 161k on it now...he has replaced very little on the car...

My '98 was great except for the fact that I beat the piss out of it (first car I bought, didn't realize I had to fix what I broke) and at 80k it needed a new tranny and head. It was the ZX2 w/5speed tranny. Your's should be fine as long as you take care of it (like with every car on the road)

My old man has one with just over 100K on it. Treats him good, no major problems, just regulary scheduled maintenance. His is the four spd auto and has pretty good zip for what it is.

well thanks for the imput guys, a mechanic i talked to said the timing belts normally go around 80K so sometime next year ill probably do that, and just keep on the maintenace and hope for the best.
