2003+ Accord Tranny Service ?
Thursday, November 29, 2007 6:01 AM
2004 Honda Accord EX
2.4L iVTEC 4-cyl
Automatic

Was wondering if anybody has done this or knows the procedure for replacement of the tranny filter. Pep Boys has a note in the system from Purolator that says "filter cannot be serviced without disassembly." Furthermore, they don't list a filter at all.

It's time to do a fluid and filter change on my daily driver--just trying to get an idea of what I'm in store for. Thanks, guys!!

What trans filter??? Most cars now don't have filters anymore. Most use screens that are non-servicable. Honda recs that you flush the system.

Well there's one listed on the Advanced Auto Parts website so I just figured it had one. At the very least I guess I could do just the fluid, but I'd really like to do it right the first time, y'know?

Just FYI. Follow the service instructions only from a Certified Honda shop manual. And make sure you follow it to a tee. That generation Accord has a big reputation for auto tranny failure. Talk to any certified Honda tech at a dealler and they'll tell you, that was a bad year for Honad Accord Automatics. Baby that tranny as much as you can, they are moody.

I got access to the service manuel for that year. I am not finding anything that regarding flushing the trans or replacement of the filter.

Well guys, according to the tech at Honda City, you can drain 3qts and refill with Honda ATF-Z, and then do it again in 10-20,000 miles to get more of the stall converter (dirty) fluid out. I did this last weekend; fluid cost less than $20.00 at the dealership.

Lol...well, I bought this car in December '05 with 78,000 miles on it. It was a company car driven by a manager and Honda serviced it's whole life. Right now it has 121,000 miles on it and has given me almost NO problems. Had the same problem with my radio and it was replaced for free. I've done brake pads twice in the front, but never rotors. The latch that keeps the door from swinging to far out gave me some trouble at one point. Basically the nut that holds it to the body broke loose. Very easy fix, though. All in all this car has been a DREAM. No major repairs at all, really. Just routine maintenance. I'd buy another Accord tomorrow if I wanted to trade this one in.

Those radios are crap. They have a campaign out to replace/ repair the radio free of charge if the customer concern is the diplay is dim/ inoperative.

Interesting Agent on the history of ur ride.I in a sense wish we had kept our 95 civ ex as a kick around in addition to the 04 accord. The civic was much better on mpg and it was a 5spd man and we had it since new and sold with 100k on the clock no prob.Wifes just kickd 46000 so were miles away from ur mileage.
