That's what we're hearing anyway. Although this may seem as rumortastic as they come, we feel our source is solid -- he's a loyal Jalopnik reader with a validated connection to an LA FX studio working on the pilot for the new Knight Rider TV show. Our source is claiming he's got it on good authority that KITT's gonna be a Ford Mustang. Hey, maybe that takes care of that whole Mustang variant issue for 2009, right? In fact, maybe KITT'll even be a Roush Blackjack like the one p-shopped above and in the gallery below. We don't know -- but we're going to do some investigating.
Dumb idea. I think they should make Kitt the new Camaro. That'd be really sweet.

I kinda figured since all they used in the Knight Rider team(?) show was Fords. Would be cool if they took the new camaro and turned it into a firebird like the photoshops somebody did when the first new Camaro prototype was shown for the New KITT.

i really think they should keep it a GM. in the team night rider, they werent all fords as there was 2 bikes as i recall,and ford doesnt make any bikes.
my vote for a GM replacement for Kitt is either the new Camaro or the G8.
theres good and bad to both... the Camaro is at least a 2 door coupe, but the G8 is at least a Pontiac. maybe they will make a one-off.... a Camaro in G8 clothing...

Oh man that would so suck. Should atleast be a GM i.e. new Camaro would be most obvious choice. Mustang is a great car but they sold a wack of black TA's when Knight Rider came out and it's almost kinda "sacred" turf for enthusiasts. It's like remaking Smokey and the Bandit with a Viper (hmmmmmm.... lol).
This would be a perfect way to show off the new ZR1 Corvette.............

well i had some time to think about this and....well as uflip06 just said they (GM) sold A LOT of T/A's after the original show aired. It was a huge boost to F-body sales. With Ford in a bad place money wise, it kinda makes sense for Ford to put a car in there. Lord knows they need the sales boost GM got with the 80's show. I'm sure It's not that Universal doesn't have brand loyalty when it comes to KITT. It's probably Ford knows this could be one of the best product Advertisement showcase oppurtunities they'll ever get. And they are probably making one heck of a sweet deal for Universal to sway them away from the new Camaro.
The reality is GM is in a better upswing than ford financially, so in all reality they don't exactly need the exposure...it would be nice, but they're doing fine with or without it. My biggest beef with this is the heritage. Mustangs to me don't "fit" the knight rider model. And the fact that Ford has totally whored out this car for the last 3 years...it just seems too-much to me like a played out -overexposed car to be in the show.
We shouldn't have to suffer with yet another "special edition" Mustang for KITT. I could see it now after they flooded the market with their weekly "SE" Stangs (i.e. Bullitt Edition, MACH, Boss,Roush,GT-H,Saleen, Eleanore) now we get the KITT edition...just another rebadged GT Mustang with crap tacked on to boost the window sticker. And make it seem exclusive...when next week the same car will be repackaged and get a few minor detail changes and a fancy new "Special Edtion" name.
I'm sorry, nobody wants that for KITT. KITT should not be some car companies next new marketing ploy.
The original KITT was cool because it was the all-new F-body, the show came out at the same time as the cars debut. It was exciting to viewers because we experience the launch of an all-new model of car like no other in history. This car (Mustang) is so over marketed, i'm personally not excited about it at all anymore. And that seems unfair to the spirt of the show, that KITT should not be boring or cookie cutter. I honestly think if KITT ends up a Mustang this will blow up in their faces.
So it's this very reason i think it should be the Camaro. Perfect timing IMHO, like the original the magic is there. A new F-body is about to debut, and a new Kight Rider is about to come to T.V.. How much better of a perfect storm could they need. It's destiny. I sure hope Universal takes time to consider this before sigining the contract with Ford. All the proof they need is how bad of a flop Team Knight Rider was without KITT and an all Ford (car & truck) Line-up. Or how bad the early 90's Smokey & The Bandit T.V. show was with a blue Dodge Stealth R/T instead of the Black T/A. It's just not good to mess with tradition.
