Hello everyone.
My girlfriend loves this truck, a '94 blue extended cab k1500 pickup.
It needs a new transfer case immediately in order to be able to move. Im going to take one off a junked pickup, no problem.
My questions are with the motor.
its got 210xxx miles on it. When the truck did run, it didnt make any wierd pings or knocks at all (save for the rockers tapping a little) -- its almost suprising to me that it made it this far without anything wrong with it. But it really was never beat on at all. It eats a little bit of oil, but no blue smoke or anything like that.
Im going to try and get it running and everything for her for the holidays.
I am going to replace a lot of the "routine maintenance" parts on it when i get the t-case installed.
With so many miles, should I worry about the bottom end? This motor sounded better than my Cav does at 75k miles haha. Im only iffy about it because the truck hasnt been run in, 7 or 8 months.
Im trying to avoid pulling the motor if possible, and it probably wont be daily driven.
should I save myself the trouble and look for a reman motor for something like this? -- she also goes to school so it wont be driven too much.
any input appreciated Thanks!
put the t-case in it and change the fluids , and give it a tune up
itll be good another few hundred K
friend of mine has a 88 4wd 1/2 ton , and we put a motor in it from a 89-90 , motor had around 100k when he bought it , and its prob close to 400k now in just the last 7-8 years
only reason we put a motor in the truck is he bought it with no motor or trans cause the previous owner pulled it for his hot rod
Thats what i was hoping for.
Im going to give it a good cleaning and going through and hopefully dont run into any pitfalls.
Ill have to get a new camera for pics!
dont clean it to well , you might open a can a worms , LOL
they are great trucks
Thats true, I needed to replace the radiator in my '89 Astro (4.3v6) after doing a coolant flush.... yea never again! lol
Everything is just going to get drained and refilled with fresh fluids, I might make the engine bay look presentable tho. It might turn out ot be something pretty to look at...
thanks for the advise all!
