so i want to go get some gas for my car this morning and went the gas station over by my work. ive been inside but never got gas there.I go to grab the pump and i see this e10 fuel. they list it as 89octane and its the same price as 87 (2.99) ive heard of e85 but not e10 is it safe to use in all vehicles or what is the benefit of e10 fuel. thanks
e10 is most gas now a days... its just a blend which is safe for all cars and trucks, not all boats. its mainly to keep the cost of "pure fuel" down a bit. its perfectly safe. you may have been buying it for a while now and not even known about it.
e10 is just a small amount of ethanol wheras e85 is mainly ethanol.
e10 will just decrease your gas mileage a TINY bit, e85 wont work in your car, but cars that can use it tend to get really bad gas mileage.
it gets worse mpg. hmmm im glad i didnt get it if that is true. but they said it was the same as 89 octane
nothing serious, like maybe 1mpg but yeah its to keep costs down. ethanol also burns hotter so increased power (not noticeable one wouldnt think) could also be an effect
E-10 is just 10 percent ethanol blended with the mid grade gas. It will not hurt anything. We have had it where I live in Des Moines Iowa for about 8 yrs I use it in anything and everything except my boosted cavy. The only reason I do not use it in that is because I need 91 or higher octane and all the ethanol is only mixed with mid grade which is usually the 89 octane as you mentioned. Good news though a rare few gas stations are starting to offer the 10% ethanol blend in 91 octane now here is Des Moines so ina few more years others will states will have it. It seems the further you get from the midwest the longer it takes for ethanol to show up in the pumps. Before long it will be the standard mid grade nationwide. It still kind of seems weird to me at times that you are just now seeing this and I have been using it for 8 years.
As far as the gas milage. It is true that ethanol does not get as good of mileage as gas but with only a 10% mix I garantee you will not be able to tell the differnce. It will not cost you more since they adjust for that in the price thus why the non ethanol blend will cost more and still have a lower octane rating. It makes good sense to buy the 10% blend.

FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
I also wanted to add that by buying the ethanol blend you are supporting your own country since ethanol is made from mainly corn and soybean by-productcs and is produced here in the heartland of the USA. This helps farmers as well as creates jobs right here in the us. By using it you are using 10% less foriegn oil. We here in the US should do everything in our power to be less dependant on foriegn oil.

ok thanks guys ya i live in kansas (not the boonies tho) in johnson county its like the 4-5 richest county in the us. i typically always get gas at the same place everytime so i havent really gone to other places. ill have to check around to see if others around here carry the e10 fuel

It has an octane rating of something to the tune of 108... And to get full-performance from your E85-compliant engine (usually gains about 5-15bhp), you will lose a bit of mileage. I personally think it could be tuned a bit more...

- Ractive steering wheel
- ASA 17" EM9 + Nexen N5000 215/45/17 (steelies for winter)
- D-Spec Lowering kit @ 1.4" (issues currently
)
- Rockford P250.1 + MTX MZS1004 + Panasonic CQ-C8313U head unit
- Barely legal tint.
you can get a lot more power then 5-15bhp from a car running on e85 with a proper tune... think more in whp+ and if your car is boosted you can see much much nicer gains
i think once we start seeing cars that are tunned properly for e85 it will be much more widely accepted and fuel efficient per hp. all people see right now is that it costs around the same and you get less gas mileage
yes cars nowadays can use e85 if they have a flex fuel system... this doesn't mean its tuned 100% right to run on it to its full potential
btw its e85 around 100-105 octane
on the original topic.... they have been running e15 in my area for a few years and e10 for as long as ive been driving ... of course i don't ever bother with that crap and always get top tier gas
I usually get gas at the local Co-Op station. Regular 87 octane from 100% American crude oil from the Illinois Basin, and they have 89.5 octane E10 that's 5 cents cheaper than the regular. I haven't noticed that much of a decline in mileage (98% highway driving). Plus I get another 10 cent discount since my step-dad is a branch manager for the company, so no complaints here.

I have used the ethanol blend in most of our cars except for my 77 Camaro. No problems at all. May help in the wintertime as well to prevent frozen gas lines.
We run e10 in our cars, and when we have e10 in our Sunfire, the O2 sensor works, with "regular" gas it throws a code every time.
I have not put the e10 in our medium trucks at work yet though, still a little timid about going there.
