I don't consider a big cloud of black and gray smoke coming out of my car as attractive, but it sounded good...
lol. maybe it runs on coal?

Diesels can be programed to make power and not produce lots of soot. I hope he didnt start with a good condition GN.
Duramax FTW though.
why would you do that to a grand national??

Um...Why not....theres a reason behind this...
The GNX has always been one of my favorite cars........ and even i think thats pretty badass..... props to the guy on that one
saw this on clubgp about a week ago.

it started out life as a cuttlass, the guy has enough respect not to do it to a real GN. he got all the parts as reproduction or salvage parts, and put the car together from scratch. i think it's badass (knowing that it's not a real GN). and it looks awesome, too

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.

I had an `86 Buick Regal turbo that got stolen when it was recovered it was trashed. I still miss that car. I almost bought an `84 GN that was for sale locally here but the cars to get are the intercooled 86-87.
That car looks like it started life out as a Regal probably just a general V6 or 307 powered. Each division Chevy, Olds, Pontiac, Buick had a unique quarter window treatment and this car looks like a Buick. Its relatively easy to drop in a turbo motor provided you have the donor motor AND trans (which is different). When I was in that crowd I saw all sorts of variants they put turbo V6 in from Fieros to Cadillac Fleetwoods.
For what its worth the GN package was actually a beauty option. You ordered the Regal then the T-Type then the GN appearance package. For 1987 things really got wild when the turbo engine package became a stand alone option. So you had base, WE4, Type T, Limiteds, GN, and GNX running around. Pontiac got into the game when for 1989 only the turbo V6 was installed in a limited number of Trans Ams.
I give they guy credit for working a diesel over like that - diesels, at least in trucks, are becoming popular now and command a premium. We get magazines at work now for display with diesel performance mods and stuff.

My budy has a 79' Buick Regal, it has a 350 in it, built it up from a botched project car. It puts out smoke like that, and it runs on gas.
Its a beast, not near done, but the Faux GN definatly reminds me of it.
Whatever is on the 18to1 site is a Regal and always was a Regal from the get go. In order for it to have started out as a Cutlass you would have had to change the front clip back clip C pillar roofline I am not sure about the doors but the dash and the rear interior panels. But why since there are 81-87 Regals shells available.

The reason he started off with a cutlass is because he lives in cali and they were available in deisel. Therefor he didnt have to worry much about emissions. The car did start its life as a cutlass he grafted everything from a GN on it..READ

... that IS the car on 18to1. started out life as a cutlass.
this is the car before the hacking

i wasn't questioning the power of diesel... i was questioning ruining a car that has an already capable turbo v6 in it... and is fairly rare and collectible
glad to see it's not a real grand national that they worked over like that. sweet ride.
I see now but good God almighty I can't see why one didn't just find a Regal body. They DID come with diesels during the 80s. Too bad this guy didn't do this back in say 1982 when such success might have instilled buyers to buy more diesels. There are enough parts suppliers around that you can make a GN out of any Regal. I have seen 3.8 Buick motors shoehorned into Gen II Cavaliers so why not try to shoehorn in a turbo Buick motor. Guys are already shoehorning 3.1 turbo motors so why not.
I would like a diesel truck though but I can't afford it...

May i ask why you would ever want to do that to a GN? it couldnt be for torque reasons because my old mans GNX has INSAIN!!! low end toqrue... and its still the 3.8L V8... and has no problems shreading 315's on the back...
The First Twin Charged jbody
blue car (R.I.P) - 240whp @7psi..
silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno

uh... what? it's not a GN. it's a cutlass. or use to be. he used it because they came with diesels back in th day. he wanted to make a diesel GN, but had the respect not to cut up a real GN... and also diesel cars are exempt from emissions. so he can do whatever he wants, more or less. the thing is badass IMO.... and those arent 315's. the WHEELS are 15" wide

That car isn't the only one getting the diesel treatment these days...take a look at this...
Clicky!
Diehard Corvette fans may want to avoid that link.
I believe there is a future for diesel performance. I have seen what a durmax can do with a little tunning.
This car is really neat!
ive seen alot of diesel trucks lately running in the 12's and 13's , thats freaking moving considering the size and weight , and serious lack of aerodynamics , lol
i still laugh at the 65 impala that pimp my ride did with the bio-diesel dura-max , 0-60 in under 4 seconds , and it killed a lambo in the 1/4 (although i still kinda think some of that was staged)
