My one friend has a 94 Ford Probe SE 5spd With 117k. The other day he said he heard "the bearings going bad" (guessin a small knock) so he drained his oil and put in thicker oil and he said its fine now and believes that the bearings will last him another 100k because of the thicker oil. I called him a moron and i really dont believer him. Am i wrong? Will thicker oil help save the engine from the bearings goin out?
its not going to get any better thats for sure.
shifted is right, it hides the problem and is a band-aid solution... eventually the band-aid will fall off.

Leave the car unlocked with the keys in it downtown somewhere ... oh yeah, with the thicker oil.
Problem solved.
Once a bearing is bad, it's bad and needs replaced.
Like mentioned, it's just a band-aid and it won't last long. He better fix it now before it ends up costing him more money later. Of course, try telling him that and he won't listen. And, if he doesn't listen... rub it in his face HARD when he has to get a new engine.
