Kinda hard to guess, but I'd say between 10 to 18mpg.

It also depends alot of what kind of trans is in it- th350, 700r4, 200r4, manual, etc

A 2wd v8 s10 would be a scary winter beater.... the price sounds good though

Trans and differential gearing will make all the difference.

For a winter beater you would be out of your mind.

For a fun project on the other hand.. most definitely do it.

And, my carbed 305 Camaro gets about 6mpg in town. Of course, now that it's not my daily beater, my foot suddenly got heavier.

well not really a winter beater but just something to have to work on and stuff. I'd really like to get it but the gas that thing would take would be insane. Then again it would be nice to have something i can tow with or haul stuff around in without worryin about room.

If you are worried about gas mileage that much, you better run.. far away.

It didn't stop me though.

dude. seriously think of how much play cash you have after all bills are paid and you own a good reliable commuter for year round use before buying a toy like that. if gas mileage is a concern, i would say you dont have the right amount of play cash to even start the project.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

My dad has 2 carbed 5.7's with the Th350's... one in his truck w/ 4.11's (1979 full size) -- gets 7 freeway, 13 city. The other in his Monte Carlo w/ a tri-carb setup, and stock gearing. 14 freeway, 12-ish city.

If you went with a 700r4, you might have a bit better gas mileage due to the overdrive. I'd go with a Tremec T56 personally (if it bolts to the 5.7)

if you're in the least bit concerned about fuel economy, the word "carburetor" should be deleted from your vocabulary.
