Do you ever get that urge to just get in your car with your wallet and go away for the weekend..with no real destination in mind..just get away....You get hungry, you eat..you get sleepy, you get a hotel..My wife is gone for the next 5 days..and I really feel like hitting the road for the weekend...
How often do you act on the urge?
I've never gone out for days, but I have gone out for hours. I think the last time I did something like that, I drove about 200 miles. I just started taking roads around Phoenix that I hadn't taken before.
I used to do it a lot when I couldn't sleep. it really helped put my mind at ease.
although... doing something like you're talking about sounds like a lot of fun, just could be costly.

I've done the automotive equivalent to the $100 cheeseburger, got in the car drove a few hundred miles, picked up a cheeseburger, ate it and went home. But I have never left the state, or taken more than one day.
I use to go out driving around aimlessly for hours all the time. Then gas got expensive.
Still though, this is one of my favorite ways to pass time/deal with stress.
I've been getting a recent urge to take a road trip too... I'm hoping to save up a few days of vacation time and just drive somewhere.
Summer 2006. Drove from Allentown, PA - Dover, DE - Belmar, NJ - Salvo, NC...all in a weekend.
yea i do that a bit being that i enjoy driving...and even when im on vacation ill find myself going out at night driving around and looking for a cool car scene to go check out
RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...
I did that once with a bunch of buddies right after high school, ended up on the road for 3 months.
Good times and good days
Are you gonna Bark all day little Doggy or you gonna bite? - Mr. Blonde
i used to cruise up the cali coast , hauling ass and hitting some twisty's , with some hard rock blasting
now the desert is just to boring so i dont do it much anymore if at all
I did something similar in that I was out in pittsburgh, Pa visiting my girl at college when on a Friday night I declared -- "hey lets drive to Frankenmuth, Mi -- I want some wine." So we drove the 5 hours there, got 220$ of wine and walked around on Saturday. Started driving home and halfway through OH decided to just stop and go to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame on Sunday. Was back in Pittsburgh Sunday night.
I drive pretty far for the hell of it quite often just to see new things. Always get great experiences. As far as acting on it, I do it quite often.
Yeah I feel that.
Except change 'drive' with 'fly' and 'places' with 'other countries'.

I used to do that all the time, but I was cheap... I went for Nesquik banana milk. Tucson, Flagstaff, Prescott...wrecked my car on a mountain road the last time, haven't done it since, don't even know if they make that stuff anymore.

Must be a Phoenix thing, I've been on every stretch of every major road south of the 60 and north of Firebird.

this summer drove from here in minnesota all the way to seattle for half and hour and came back home. i had to pick someone up but it was a good roadtrip.
I do it on my bike a lot. I never make it very far from home, but I always end up putting on 150 miles in an afternoon.
Update. I only drove a couple hundred miles..But I got my feet wet in the ocean, got some sand in my car, did some drifting on some dirt roads, and put some time between me and home. Was probably the best two days I've had in awhile. I almost wish I had a babysitter for a few days so I could do this every couple weekends with my wife. When summer rolls around I'm doing it again(I'll have 3 months off with current job)...except I'm going to take a trip through a couple states.
If you've never done this..seriously...you need to.
Never left overnight..... but have put some miles behind me a few times..... worst was when i got into a fight w/ the rents when i was 17 or so.... went from Newark, DE to philly, then shot to AC, just because, then finally came home..... was a good time
