My bro is looking to buy a 1966 Mustang that has the body fully restored and the interior is original. The engine and trans are out
of the car and they do come with the car. The seller is looking to get $7,500 USD. Do you guys think its a good deal? Also do you
guys/gals have any idea of what it may cost to get the engine installed? Thanks for the help.
Here are some pics.
Oh the body is perfect, he does body work for a living and he painted it.
Thanks JBO.

I'd give him $5k without the engine and tranny installed maybe the $7k if he installs it. Coupes aren't rare at all, let alone one that isn't original. I think the Shelby clone as coupe is neat idea though.
serisouly, if the body work is complete, and all the work is done, it is totally worth that much money
when we did my 68, we spent 4k on the finishing body work and paint alone
i would definitely check under the car thoroughly to make sure that it is completely restored
installing the motor and trans actually is not that difficult
do you know if the engine runs? and what condition is the tranny?
if its just a simple ploppin the engine and trans in and pluggin it all up to make it run, then by all means its worth it, even it not being a shelby
my car is just a simple 68 coupe, and it was appraised at 16.5k so you could even turn around and sell it for more than youd pay for it
Classic Fords are lame...
...oh wait
Yeah like said above, if the engine works and the tranny is good slap them buggers in and you already have a car worth more than the value you got it for.
How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.
Yup, that car is Hella sweet. Hardest thing to find on an old car is a straight body. Nice exterior color, black interior, desirable period correct Cragar mags. Hell, it's even got AC!
Yes, Ford made over 2 million Mustangs between 1964 to 1966 so there's still a ton left, but that doesn't change the fact that this particular car you wanna buy is nicer than hell.
As for the price, it'd be a steal if it was an original GT or K-code 289 car. However, it's probably an original 289 2 barrel V8 car with 3 speed manual transmission that was converted to a modded engine and 4 speed later in it's life, and most of those cars go for round the price the guy wants to sell WITH the engine/trans installed.
My opinion? That body is really straight and that's something that you just don't find on old Mustangs. So while the guy's not giving you any presents, he's not screwing you either. I think it's a good deal. I'd buy it if I had the money.
if I had a garage to keep that and work on it I would buy it
What engine and trans does the guy have for it? Is it stock? It's worth the money if the underneath is as nice as the body.
Reality: If you're looking to buy a car without a drive line installed and have no means to install it yourself you need to pass on the car. Dropping the drive line in that car should be pretty easy.
Ditto, I would make this the third soldier in my mini-fleet of Mustangs that I have here.
Get a case of beer, a few back issues of Car Craft and call your buddies over to help with a weekend "Wrench-a-thon" and put that pony back on the road. A 289 / 302 and standard trans will drop in there with no problems. Hell even if you can't afford a built motor I would get a boneyard 302 and drop it in just to have it move under its own power.
If the undercarriage is clean and the car has been taken down to bare metal and painted with a quality paint job...grab it. 7K is not a bad price.
My bro went ahead and bought the car. He got if for $6,300. The engine is a 289 with a 4 speed trans. He also said it had a 302 crank in it.
I will take more pics for you guys/gals to check it out. Looks like my bro and me have a winter project!
Thanks for the comments

thats what i was going to suggest.....haggle the price. if he was asking 7500 it pretty much meant he was going to go down on the price.
Real good deal. If it is really nice as the pictures look he could probably get it on the road and double his money....
yea, $7500 seemed a little bit high, but for the price he paid, it ain't a bad deal at all
