CraigsList Find of the Decade: 930,000 mile '95 Honda Civic
Filed under: Coupes, Etc., Honda

There's high mileage, and then there's this. A 1995 Honda Civic is for sale in Atlanta with, count 'em, 939,899 miles. That's 200+ miles a day. Every day. Including Sundays. For 12 years. It even has a Carfax report from when the car had 907,000 miles on it. According to the seller, the car runs like new, with no leaks, no noises, no oil burning, and not even a scratch on the body. In fact, the only blemish listed is that one of the dashboard lights doesn't work, and that's only sometimes.
The car is on its ninth timing belt, ninth water pump, and fourth clutch. But the engine and transmission are original, as are the floor mats. The car even comes with records. The most incredible thing isn't the mileage, though. It's how the owner put the miles on the car: driving on business trips from Atlanta... to Seattle... and San Francisco. We want to know what kind of business -- or what kind of boss -- makes a guy drive across the country and back, and then some, every single month for 12 straight years.
To paraphrase The Proclaimers, if you buy this car then you can drive a million miles and you can drive a million more...
Thanks for the tip, Ronnie!

GM Used to have a Million Mile club in the 50-70's... They had about 20,000 members If I remember.

There is a guy in my hometown that drives a Chevy pickup to and from Chicago nearly every day. I believe it is an early '90's truck, and not too long ago hit the million mile mark. The motor and transmission were never rebuilt, and very few parts were replaced on it. Had a big story about it in our local paper. GM even contacted him about doing a possible advertisement and looking into how it was maintained so well. Pretty cool.

I remember watching letterman one night and he had a guy in an 80's rabbit/ or cabroit? drive around the block until he hit 1 mill and vw gave him a new jetta...this had to have been in 2002ish...as I was driving and in high school still. I thought it was funny as every 10 minutes they would check in with the guy as he was driving around the block untill he hit 1 mil.

wow... I keep up on maintenance, but at 130,000 miles I feel like my '95 tahoe is going to rattle apart before the engine ever dies.

Re: Civic FTW!!! check this out

That may very well be true! I think you could probably get a motor/transmission to last damn near forever with normal use as long as you perform maintenance..but it's the rest of the car that usually falls apart....at least imo

i just cant fathom that being correct without the owner replaceing every part on it. I mean what is he on his 10th set of shocks and springs?....lets be honest...
