Well I am looking for a new car Just a question for the org.
I see the G6 2.4 is the same engine as the Cobalt 2.4 - correct?
What other similarities are there between the two. I am eying a G6 to replace my cavy. Any thoughts? Good or Bad?
They really don't have much in common. They're in 2 totally different classes. The G5 is the exact same as the Cobalt though. I've always liked the G6....great car IMHO.
Thanks, I think I might wimp out and get the 2.4 eco instead of the 3.5 v6 have to check with my insurance to see if there would be difference
G6 ftw. looks better, bigger, and you can get a gxp
Andy
it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,
3" exhaust, flomatched injectors
'97 GTP 14.06@100.6mph pre cam w/ 3.5" pulley, I/E
The G6 is a very nice car. I have not driven a 2.4 version, but I would suspect it would be a bit of a dog when it comes to acceleration.
Insurance should actaully be better than the G5 or Cobalt. Crash ratings factor into insurance rates far more than engine size.
Here's a dressed up one for sale. It's a stick with the 3.9. If I recall correctly, it has less than 1000km on it.

Wow.. Way to ruin a G6...

Watching you parade around my bedroom in a thong was a little like watching sea lions mate.
The G6 coupe is a sharp looking car, but with a 2.4 litre, you wont be buying performance. Still, you cant go wrong with the Ecotec engine.
You could pony up the big money for this verson of the G6....

I like the G6. It's quite a nice car. There are a few places where GM cheaped out on it, but overall, I love it. My only complaint is that you can't get a manual trans anymore (at least last time I checked GMcanada you couldn't.) I wish you could get the 4cyl with a 5spd. But it is definately better than a Cobalt.

Taste is subjective. The only thing I don't like at all is the interior colour choice. Maybe if the ebony plastic colour was changed to match better.
That being said, I think this car turned out. Risky but tasteful colour choices. Detailed air brushed flame/stripe. The razzi looks decent on the car. The mpd hood and spoiler are sharp. Wheels are sweet. Brakes make me tingle.
Considering that you can't get a stick in Canada anymore, and that this one will likely sell for less than a new car, I think it's a great choice.
SInce I am lookng for a new daily driver, I considered it. However, the snow plow on the front and the high qualitry paint work would suffer in a snow storm.
The black GM car is nice. I thought those parts were to be offered by GM?
I have driven many n-body 4 cylinders. It's just not a car I would buy.
If I remember correctly, Samantha has the 3.9 G6. She should be able to help you with some questions.
I had an 06 GTP coupe with the 6-speed. I have quite a few more dislikes than likes. And definetly dont get the 4-cyl in it omg. You cant get one in the coupe, but the coupe weighs like 3300lbs or something stupid like that. It just kind of sucks when a cobalt SS is faster than your G6 GTP, or quite a bit more of an aftermarket for it. Overall wasnt too thrilled with the car, which is why after a year I traded it in for an 07 sierra.
Well I don't really plan on moding it too much, kinda grown out of that scene. I was going toward a sedan so that doesn't bother me a bit. Any specific dislikes / problems.
the G6 is light years ahead of the cobalt in just about every way ... yes the SS is faster (read lighter) but the fit and finish and feel of the G6 is WAY better in almost every way. I have a 2006 G6 GTP coupe, 3.9L 6 Spd and I did this same comparison when I was looking to buy. what it came down to for me was, as much as I liked the cobalt and the G5 it'd be like getting another sunfire ... still an econobox ... and I wanted an upgrade.
spend the extra money for the 3.5L if you can, really it's not that much and you get all the extra torque.

taste is
definitely subjective. all in all, it looks like it's well-done as a show car. it just kills me to see all that time, effort, and money spent on bodywork, paint, interior, sound, etc., and then you look under the hood and it's completely stock... "show before go" is just backwards.
that's just
my opinion though.
LD9 F23 FTW!!

The car was sponsored by GM for their tours and Sema. I'm sure they didn't give him enough time to develop any go fast goodies. There is still little for the 3.9 now.
I too prefer go fast goodies. When buying a car, I stay away from other's performance mods. Most of the time, you end up cleaning up the mess. Whether it's shoddy work or the results from abuse.
