Ok, so my friend has a dodge daytona turbo, with an auto trans. and we were both wondering, when he hits the gas like hard, like flooring it, the transmission drops into neutral, he'll push the pedal alot, then he said after he pushes so far, it kind of pops and goes all the way, then thats when the trans. drops to neutral, anyone know what this is?? any help is appriciated, thanks

I'm gonna say...I don't know. I had the same problem with my '93 Daytona Iroc with the 3.0 V6 and we just gave up on it. It'd go fine for awhile then drop to neutral or shift down to second gear. You might check the connections on the wiring harness that plugs into the transmission but other than that I don't know.

sounds like he is just having a really bad slip. I would have to drive it my self to determine the cause

if he has to re-shift into d to get it to go again me thinks valvebody issue

Being a Daytona Turbo automatic, I'm assuming it has the stock 3-speed auto in it, correct??? Anyways, those old 3-speeds have virtually no electronics on them whatsoever. Yeah, they have the P/N switch, the VSS on the axle extension housing, and maybe a tranny temperature switch, but there is nothing electrical there that controls shifting.

I suggest doing a tranny flush, filter, and refill, and while you are in there, adjust the clutch bands. There are two adjustments, one on the outside of the transmission, and one inside the tranny that you can access once you remove the filter and get the parking rod out of the way. It's simple enough to do and it might be a nice cheap fix. In the worst case scenario, you might be out maybe $25 and a couple hours of labor, I'd still consider it worth a shot if another tranny is your only option. Also when you pull the pan off, if you see chunks of clutch band material in the pan, save yourself the time and money and go ahead and start looking for a replacement tranny.
