97+ Honda Prelude-ive always liked this style of prelude but know very little about them, does anybody know how the gas mileage is, reliabilty(sp?) of these cars?? ive tried talking to afew local owners of these cars but they dont seem interested in talking to a cavy driver...
00-02 Cavy Z24-nothing needs to be said i know all about them but i dunno if i really want another cavy...
96+ Civic Si-again here i know almost nothing about these cars but i think they look pretty nice, id only consider an Si or SiR...
beyond these cars im kinda stumped, my Camry is a nice car but its starting to show its age being 15yrs old. so please help me out here domestic or import it doesnt matter except Chrysler/dodge i will never own another dodge again...

Well since it's going to get said anyways...
LS1 FTW
01 audi a4 1.8tq, will out handle almost anything in the winter also looks very nice and has mod capabilities
james-i'd love an F-body but i just couldnt daily drive one, plus they are outta my price range unless i take an older LT1.
Project crash pattern-thanks for the input but again i think they may be wayyyyyy outta my price range, i'll look around though and see what i can find...
oh and i dont plan to mod the car at all...

i dont have any real car to recommend... but i do have one recommendation, dont get another J. I did that mistake already, and regret it. when u buy a newer car, the whole point of it is to upgrade. by getting another J it would only be a lateral move... not an upgrade. definitely get something nicer.
my car after my cavalier was an 01 eclipse spyder. while it wasnt fast, it did have a "quality" feel compared to a J. dont get me wrong, their not really awesome cars or anything, but compared to the cavalier, it felt like a nice improvement.
then i got a cobalt....... and ill tell u this, while it is newer, it feels exactly like my cavalier,, so not much of an improvement
A third generation Hyundai Elantra or Tiburon. Can't go wrong. Great build quality, reliability, and fuel economy.

How much would $10,000 - $12,000 be in U.S. currency?
With that I might be able to offer some suggestions of my own.
W-Body.
You can pick up a nice 3800 series Impala, S/C GTP, or my new favorite, a S/C Buick Regal GS.
01-03 Models go for 6-14K depending on kilometers and such.
This is in the GTA.
you can go places with an lt1 f-body. once heads and cams come into play it is anybodys game between the lt1 and ls1. the ls1 just responds to bolt ons better.
or you could see if you can pull off a lt1 c4 vette. wiht just bolt ons you would be suprised what those cars do. the vette came with better heads/cam then the fbody's plus alot of people don't realize how light those c4's were.

when you beat someone in a civic people wine and make excuses
when you beat someone in a cavalier they pull over and check under thier hoods
jinxed i do like the GTP's so ill have to take a look at them...
un4givn-thanks ill look into them!
nutcase-sorry man the car im looking for is going to be a daily/winter car and i cant afford an LS1, and DO NOT plan to mod...

1996-2000 Civic Si's are a good car, but no matter how good a car Honda builds, the newest one of those you are gonna find is still 7 years old, and may start to show it's age.
Same deal with a Prelude and Civic SiR, except that you'd probably have a hard time finding a decent one, and it would cost alot. But if you find a good one I'd go for it, I doubt you'd regret it.
If you wanted something a little newer, you could look for someting like a Hyundai Elantra GT, good car's and a little less common.
Grand Am GTs are pretty sweet, plentifull, and cheap. Same with Grand Prixs.
Mazda Protege ES, little bit cheaper than a Civic, so you could get a newer one for the same price. Handle's great, fun to drive, not too powerfull, but good on gas.
You might also be able to find a 2003 Corolla or Corolla Matrix 5spd in that price range. Really good on gas, and cause they are light, the 5spd isn't that slow. And very Reliable.
You could even look at an Impreza 2.5 TS, if you could find one.
I'd say since you have all winter to decide, take a look around and find something that you really like.
My 99 Prelude 5spd gets about 30mpg on the highway, on an interstate trip i averaged 37mpg (after a recent tune up). It doesn't have hardly any low end power, its made for top end. I've had it at over 140mph. The lude compared to the cavy will be a bit more to in price to maintain but is worth it imo. They are a bit harder to find since they stopped making them in 2001. You have to use premium gas due to the 10:1 compression. If you can think of anything just ask, I'm aCavy/Lude owner so I don't mind cavy owners.
