this lady at my job is having a problem with her Audi. She has no power steering fluid and when she checked the manual it said that she must go to the dealership. She said the manual also said something about the specific type of fluid to use. (I believe it was G1000?). does anyone know why this is? is it a dealerships way of trying to get her to give them more money?

no special procedure or anything just drain the old fluid out and put the new fluid in, you could buy the fluid at a dealership i forget exactly what kind it is.
there is no fluid in it.

audi/vw go trough a surprising amount of power steering fluid. What i would do it take a small pick and poke a small hole in the bottom of the inner tie rod boots, if no fluid comes out get the audi/vw fluid and top it off.
Typically if you check the fluid every oil change (5,000 miles is the interval on those) it will be low everytime. Thye all like to eat oil, coolant, and power steering fluid.
^^^ Never had a problem with any of them frankly... coming up on 90K now too. Of course, when I changed the waterpump at 30K i flushed the ever loving crap out of the block and radiator individually and then put in regular green antifreeze. Still no problems. I don't know anything about a compatible steering fluid though, so just get the VW stuff.
