Mechanical or Electrical guages?

so im gettin all Auto-meter guages for the third gen and i noticed that alot, if not all, of them come in either mechanical or electrical. now the electrical ones are alot more expensive, like 65 for a mechanical or 180 for electronic for the same guage.

my question is, is the electronic one really worth the extra coin? they say its easier installation bla bla bla...is it really $120 worth of easy

thanks alot!

depends on what the gauge is...

if its offered in electrical or mechanical I'm guess its either fluid pressure of temperature... in either case electric is the way to go... for example fuel pressure... if you run a mechanical gauge you keep it under the hood, if its electric you can hood up the sending unit and mount the gauge in the car... under no circumstances to you want to run any mechanical fluid related gauges into the car, its an accident waiting to happen.

Electric tends to give mnore accurate readings becasue the sender is as close to the sorce as possible... if your trying to keep track of oil pressure your gonna get a more accurate reading with a sender on the block/head/engine somewhere then you would with a line running grom the same fitting to however far away the gauge itself is.

It also depends on the gauges you're talking about. Don't get me wrong darkstars is 100% correct. However, you could very well be talking about tach and speedo. The older thirdgens are mechanical. Don't believe they went to electrical until 91 maybe late 90's had it. If thats the case just get the mechanical to replace it. Otherwise you'll have to have the box to convert it.

However, if you're talking about other gauges than go with what Darkstars said.

Electrical.

Easier to set up and connect, no chance of getting hot oil or gas sprayed on you while driving, Easier to replace....

It's a no-brainer man...

well the entire guage cluster is getting replaced with aftermarket guages, so that would include the speedo and tach

thanks for your help guys
