Advice on Supra

So I found a guy selling a Supra, but it needs some well alot of work...

93. With 103k. 5sp. NA

Wrong:
Guys smoke, flicked cigerette out the targa top, it landed in the back and melted the rear seat, driver seat, console, and carpet.
Paint job is terrible (I think I could do better with spray paint!)
Exhaust has a crack in the header/down pipe area

So looking at it, it is almost an eye sore... But with some work it could be pretty sweet and I always have wanted a supra... Figuring on ripping the interior apart, doing some racing seats and roll cage. Add a turbo setup later.

What do you all think is a fair price to throw at him?

That Supra has probably been beaten on harder than a Vietnamese prostitute.

DO NOT WANT.

I didnt know that this was FATF and that you were Torreto ...

If you plan on fixing up a car, at least start with a decent base ... and a Beat to Sh1t Junker NA Supra isnt a decent base.

Low ball the piss out of him.

3K.

What is he expecting to get, is there an asking price?

Because it is a MK4 Supra and the Ricer Fanboi's Japanese God's gift to North America, he'll probably want something stupid like 10K.

You were almost right! when I called he said 9,000. I laughed over the phone, told him to me meet at the car then laughed in his face

thought I would add this in.... This car may turn into pure investment as well...

My figurings... $4,000 for car. $1,500 on interior work (seats, cage, other misc crap), $5,000 turbo upgrade it, $1,000 paint. You figure I put $15,000 in tops that will sell for $20+ no problems

If that true...which it probably is...he must not want to sell it that bad. Walk away bro, if you still see it for sale a month or 2 later ask him if he would take it for the $3000 or $4000 you offered last time. He just might bite.

I got a car like that once, the guy was a douchebag and wouldn't deal so i walked. The car sat on their for another 5 months. I called the number again and asked if he'd be will ing to take my original offer. He jumped at it.

No believe me i totally get the whole supra craze thing...i like them as much as the next guy, but you have to see what people are looking for. If they are going to buy a 14 year old car they want it completely redone, not just fixed up. I mean a car that old needs to be totally stripped down and at the very least cleaned up underneath. On top of that the supras that are bringing the top dollar are the latest model ones which this one isn't unless i missed something. I am however really suprised at the numbers on that website GAM posted. I dunno, i guess i just dont see the reasoning behind buying a car like that, wheres the fun in letting someone else mod a car for you and then paying bukoo bucks when you dont even know the quality of workmanship...lol oh well...

That's what I always thought too Harrison. For me the only way i'd take a car already wrenched on was if it was classic muscle car that was restored. Not any new or newer tuner car. To me a fixed up tuner only says to me it was beat on. And maybe i'm picky but when i look at cars for sale...the second i see an aftermarket muffler, Conical K&N typs air filter and any peice of the interior painted The sale is off. To me that equals the car was most likely abused to death.

And I know because I hang with people on JBO and we all have/or had the muffler, intake and painted stuff inside. And we all drag race, and beat on our cavies. So as far as i'm concerned that trend is not just reserved for the J-body community, I automatically associate quasi-tuners as whipping boys for their owners and would rather not buy.

So? are you going to hold off?

Nope, 93's are Mk4's which are the more sought after generation. If it was a Mk3, the OP would need to be slapped for even considering trying to fix and resell lol. Ferrari, my advice is this: fixing this thing up will be a gamble. First off its NA, so thats points off because pretty much anyone who wants a supra wants a turbo. If it needs any kind of bodywork, you're going to lose a crapload of resale value. Likewise, to do bodywork, you're going to spend an assload of money because anyone buying one of those is looking for quality work. So weigh in how much you think you're going to spend to get this to a certain resale value, then weigh the likelihood of finding a buyer in your area. Make sure its worth it to you before you start, and that you can afford to be stuck with it if that ends up being the case. Cars really shouldn't ever be looked at as an investment, although sometimes you can get lucky.

Though I would typically agree.....

I have a guy that lives down the street from me that has bought and sold three Supras over the past couple years and made a few thousand if not more on each one, and that was doing barely any upgrades or anything. Granted all three were turbos and in more than decent shape when he got them.

Supra TTs pull in around $20K all day long in good shape

Like I said, if you can afford to be stuck with it in the case you can't find a buyer... go for it... But if you're going to wind up broke if things don't work out, don't take the chance.
