I have a spare fairing for my bike I'd like to paint and put on. (It's in better condition than my current one.) How would I go about painting it. I'm not looking for a professional finish, just something decent. How would I go about prepping and doing this? I don't have a paint gun so I know it won't be great looking.
Thanks.
Pic of what it looks like now.
Hmm.. I'd sand the paint all off.. Prime it, paint it, and then a few coats of clear.

DO NOT TAKE ALL THE PAINT OFF! You will not be able to get anything to stick to it. Sand it down with 400 grit sandpaper..just rough it up. Spray it down with a couple coats of primer. Spray lightly..sorta dust it on. Afterwards sand with 600 grit sandpaper and reprimer if you have any rough edges.
Spray a light coat of the paint youre using. Wait 5 minutes, spray a heavy coat. Wait 15 minutes and spray another light coat. Wait for the paint to dry. Sand with like 1K grit. If you really want to you can do the same process over again. If you're not going to spray another coat then you need to sand with like 2K instead of 1K.
Clear: spray a light coat, wait 10 minutes and then spray a heavy coat. Wait for it to dry and you're pretty much done with paint. Afterwards you can polish the crap out of it and get a really nice shine. You can add another coat of clear.
I got that process from a motorcycle website..some guy used it on his bike..came out awesome. I did the same for mine and people cannot tell that it was done at home with normal stuff. Be sure you dust the paint on..with all the corners on a bike it's very easy to get runs and it seems to look better when you put tons of lighter coats on then when you put one heavy coat...sticks better too.
Will race for food

I spy a perfect place to put a big ol pair o'boobies.
sand it down, spray some high build primer to fill in those divits. sand it, then spray basecoat and clearcoat For small things like that I usually get a touchup bottle of basecoat mixed up and reduce it. Not worth buying a qt of base. I usually put on 3 or 4 coats of clear, 2 or 3 of base
