How To Find New 2006 Chevrolet Vehicles...
Friday, July 27, 2007 10:01 AM
A friend of mine wants to pick up a new 2006 Chevrolet Corvette now that GM is offering 0% for 72 months on all left over 2006 GM stock. He's been looking but hasn't had any luck in finding what he wants. I helped him look and found a couple HHRs and Monte Carlos but obviously he's not interested in them. My question is what is the best way to go about searching for what he wants. I doubt that any Chevrolet dealership in my area would be willing to help him out with his request seeing how most still have lot of '07 stock left. So how should he got about this?

I've tried talking him into getting either used 06 Corvette or a new 07 Corvette but he wants a new 06 specifically for the 0% financing...which is just a little confusing to me because I'm thinking if you have $45,000 - $50,000 to spend on a Corvette, then paying a little extra for financing shouldn't be a problem.

Any advise?

If he walks into a dealership and says "I want a new 06 Vette", the dealership will work to find one. They are more eager to get rid of old stock than new stock.

And, as far as the interest goes... If your buddy is smart enough to be able to afford a new vette (requires money management skills to drop that much cash), then he knows the difference between 0% financing over 6 years and 6.9% over 6 years can save him over 1/5th the total cost of the vehicle.

O.K., I see where you (and him) are coming from. I went to one of these sites on the Internet with finance calculators and put in some numbers. I put in $50,500 as the price of a new Corvette and used your 6.9% example as well as inputting the 0% and I found he could save over $11,000 on the cost of financing if he got 0% financing so I definitely understand better why he's going for a new '06 Corvette. Even though he has a very good paying job (in sales) saving $11,000 is nothing to sneeze at. When we go out for lunch in a half hour, I'll advise him to just stop by Chevrolet dealership and tell them what he wants.

I bet you will not find a new 2006 Corvette anywhere. The vette is one of those cars that tends to sell. Its not a Cavalier that might stay on a dealer lot for 2 years.

^^^ when i bought my 05 cavalier new there was a 2003 corvette sitting in the showroom brand new. they hacked $20,000 of the 2003 price cause they wanted to move it.

it was a pretty small dealer so i'd guess they don't sell many corvettes, it was probably a special order some guy backed out on.

tell him to go to a smaller dealer, they would probably be more helpful in finding one. if the only things the sales guy sells are Aveos and cobalts i'd bet he would work pretty hard to get the commission on a corvette.

A smaller dealership would be your worst choice, dealerships are only allowed certian allocations on cars. Meaning that there only allowed to have a certian amount of one certain car. For instance the dealership I work out at is only allowed 2 corvettes a year! I think its really stupid, but considering some of the SUV's they sell over $30k and about 25% of the ones we get are over $50k, they don't really need the Corvette to make money, so they don't try to get another allocation. They don't stay in the showroom for more than a month though.

Usually if the Corvette is marked down for sell the commission will not be that great, a friend of mine sold a Corvette for $40k marked down from $47k(which made no sense considering that one had just came in that day) and 2500HD cab and chassis, the comission for the vette was only $450 and the one for the truck was $2000 and it sold for $28k which was list.

Good luck in finding one though.

There is a tool your salesman can use. He can search through the inventory for other dealers. If he finds a car you like, he can buy it from that dealer for you. Most likely, that dealer will be happy to pass it along without making any or very little money. Transport shoudl be the only additional cost.

At least that's how it works in Canada.

I'm sure there are plenty of leftovers in Canada. Vettes sell for little profit around here.

Just an update we found a dealership in upstate South Carolina (I believe near Florence) that had 3 '06 Corvettes in stock including a Z06 that they listed on their site for about $75,000 (not sure if that's a good deal as I'm not update on Corvette pricing). We drove to the dealership Saturday (hey this is the probably the closest I'll ever get to owning a Corvette) to find that they were closed. He's eying a black Corvette they have in stock that I think had a price tag list at about $52,000. He's going back tomorrow to check it out and see if he can strike a deal. I think there's a good chance he'll be cruising by my house tomorrow in his sports car.
