The Saturn Astra is coming, hopefully it'll have a 240hp Turbo like the Vauxhall VXR. However GM says it's a stopgap model. What the hell are they gonna replace it with? It's a good car and it's barely a year or two old.
They won't come out with a redline anytime soon. Maybe in a few years to freshen things up. I think it's more than a year old, and isn't the present Astra still based on the old Astra platform?
I was hoping that they'd sell it with more than one engine choice, since there are 13 engine choices in Europe. The 1.6 Turbo would have been nice. But that probably would have cost a fortune to meet north american emissions standards. But even with the relatively slow 1.8 eco I still want one when they come out.
I thought I've read that the Astra will be built in Belgium at first but production will move to the US in about a year. Maybe that's what they meant by "stopgap"? I've heard that the Lordstown plant being thrown around as the plant where they will be built, which would be good for our local economy. I've also heard that the Volt may be built there, which would be cool as all get out.
The current Saturn Astra is built in Belgium, but right now GM is heavily considering the all of GM's next compacts to be built Mexico, (including Astra) which may close Lordstown or to the very least freeze it until GM decides what to build there.

Just another reason why I'll never buy GM again.
