just got it runnin again, its been in my fam for a while now, my brother sold it, and i had to have it so i bought it back. brand new 700r4 trans, 350 bored .040 over w/ a high lift cam. i havent done any mods except upgrading the internals to be able to handle the monster cam in it. i gotta get a bigger cooling fan, a new intake and carburetor. i have a z28 hood waiting for it, until i can get an SS style. so if anyone has any 3rd gen parts, i need hood louvers, dash pad, and other misc trim pieces. lol let me know.

Mmmm.... Third Gen.
What year? 85 or so?
Looks to be in pretty good shape, needs alot of work though. If I had some parts I would give them to ya for a good price, but I am still gathering stuff.
Here soon I will have some tan parts up for sale, the only good stuff is a few plastic pieces and the seats, although they might need covered again. Not sure what color your interior is.

It Burns When I Pee Pee wrote:89, and it just needs to be cleaned, i just ran exhaust, few misc. parts. but ive only got a touch over 2 grand in it so im comin out pretty good.
I've got almost that much in just wheels..
Not much else into mine right now, been trying to do other things that are more important.. although I am slowly gathering parts for an interior swap.
Definitely keep us posted on your progress, atleast me anyway.
What are your main plans? Drag car? Restore? Street/strip? Or just for pleasure?
1983 Camaro Z28
probably just restore it as well as possible, just a lil toy to cruise on the weekends, im plannin on takin it up to commerce, GA as soon as i get it fine tuned, just for @!#$s and giggles, see what she runs in a 1/4. but its mainly the fact that i had to sell my 01 sonoma cuz insurance was raping me, so i decided i was gonna make my next vehicle a lil more sporty and fun to drive. any thing in particular i should look for when i tear further into this thing to restore it? any spots prone to rusting, etc? any advice u can give me i'd really appreciate man.

For rust spots, I would say more than likely the floor pans and stuff, also if the hatch leaks I would check the rear well in the hatch for rust, underneath the rear seats too.. I found out my carpet was moist down there for some reason, so I had to cut it all out... made the car smell better.
Biggest thing with these cars is also body twist. You won't have as much being yours isn't a t-top car, but I would still suggest a nice set of subframe connectors, they make a great difference... I still need to get some, I have heard Spohn has some really nice ones.
Also, the whole drivetrain from the 4th gens will bolt right in. As well as the whole interior, including the dash and center console. There is alot of wiring work involved and some trimming that needs to be done to the dash and console, but they are basically a direct fit, as well as the seats and even the plastics I believe. I plan to get 4th gen WS6 ebony leather seats for mine.
I still can't completely decide what to do with mine, although I do know an LS1, T-56 and 3.73's or 4.11's will make their way into this car somehow.
For parts you need or questions you might have, go to:
www.thirdgen.org
I am under the same screen name there as I am here. There are always parts for sale and plenty of places for questions. Also, if your interested in 4th gen parts:
www.ls1tech.com
They are always parting out 4th gens there.
Another thing, on www.thirdgen.org make sure and look at the sponsors on the right hand side, Modern Day Muscle has NOS GM parts, and also used parts.. I got alot of random important interior screws from them, good luck finding them most anywhere else.

You're going to take out a 350 and replace it with a 305? What the @!#$?!?!
My 305 gets 10mpg in town IF I AM LUCKY. A 305 won't help you get better gas mileage, if that's your goal.

my boss drives a 305 IROC, and it gets 20+ mpg. and i dont drive in the city. its all interstate lol. i get 9- mpg on the interstate. if i dont drive it hard. i just cant see a tuneport 305 getting bad gas mileage lol

3rd gen's are notorious for overheating problems. Dual electric fans will help. They came in the later ones. I know my 91 had them. Try flushing the radiator out also. Also, I know on the thirdgens actually do needs those plastic underskirts in the front you always break when parking. It helps airflow a lot.
i still have the ducts inside the bumper, the radiator has been checked for hotspots, but i do have a flush kit in the back seat of the car. i have the dual fans on it, and its still running hot

Oh yea, and as far as gas mileage goes...your bosses Iroc is probably TPI. Aren't you carbed? A carbed car is going to get WAYY worse gas mileage than the TPI. My 91 was TPI and gas wasn't too horrible under normal driving. Wasn't the best but not bad at all.

Just like Rabbit said, huge difference between TPI and carb..
Switch to TPI if you want better gas mileage, you could find a complete TPI swap for around $3-400 on www.thirdgen.org, it will be used.. but you will get better gas mileage.

for the love of god dont swap a 350 for a 305
Buy a 93 civic hatch if you want better gas milage.
