Again with the car buying thread. Still looking and need help!
Sunday, June 03, 2007 7:26 PM
Ok, before anyone says anything (which i know someone will) I need help finding a car. Few things first, DONT suggest a F-body (ive thought it over and dont want one)

Budget: $10-12k

Ok well lately ive been torn between alot of different cars i want.

what id like (but isn't needed)
Convertable
very good on gas

what i want
Fast/fun to drive
Nice looking
Easy on insurance
atleast moderate on gas (23ish mpg min)

what i dont care about:
import/domestic
# of cyls
the year (within reason)

After alot of thinking im still not sure. One option im thinking of is a newer convertable J-body, doing a ecotec swap and boosting.

Now, what i wanna know is are there any known problems with convert. J's? When boosted, are they really fast at all or what? ( i know it depends on supporting mods but im just wondering).

I kinda wanted to UPGRADE from a J-body, but they seem to be my best bet atm.

Im not against any suggestions (besides F-body's). So many options im not sure where to start lol

If your looking for a vert I'd go with a j. If $10-12k is your budget, maybe a MKIII supra, an RX-7. RWD drive would be the most fun to drive. Anything fast and fun is not going to be easy on insurance, best thing to is get a list and get quotes of what you want.

You'd think that with all these informative posts with suggestions that you'd maybe be able to come up with some idea of a car you'd actually like.

Who knows, maybe I'm weird. You just remind me of the guy who made a new "TSX or Civic SI with Navi?" post once a week for two months.

tell me about it. this has gotta end.
You obviously don't know what you want, so here's some advice:

01) Buy a paper copy of the auto trader, and flip through it a few times until you find something you like....
02) Double-check that car's specs at www.edmunds.com
03) Check prices on that particular model on www.autotrader.ca
04) Start shopping.
05) Stop with these posts, or I will just cut and paste this reply again.

Well.. consider what you said, there's no car out there like that. You can only get some, not all. Fast, low insurance, convertible, good gas mileage.

Anyway.. here cars you can look in your price range.

Mazda Miata
Toyota MR2(pre 2002)
Chrsyler Sebring Vert
Mitsubishi Eclipse Vert
Ford Mustang Vert
Volkswagen Cabrio

Those are the convertibles in your price range I can think of.

If you don't mind non Convertibles, there's alot and depending on years.

Dodge SRT-4 probably most bang for your buck. fast and probably in your price range. but not low insurance and not the best looking.
Toyota Celica GTS(2000-2001) Pretty decent on fast/fun. not bad looking and pretty good gas mileage.
Mitsubishi Eclipse. Pretty decent on fast/fun. Looks are subjective. not really sure on reliability.
Hyundai Tiburon 2003+. Pretty decnt on fast/fun. Good looks. Gas mileage not the best.
Ford Mustangs.
Honda Civic. Can be fast/fun. Good gas mileage. probably low insurance
Honda Accord. Nicer than civic but more expensive.
Nissan Sentra.
Saturn Ion Redline. fast/fun. might be higher than your price range.
VW GTI(older models)

there's plenty more.. it depends on what you like. 2 door, 4 door, subjective looks,etc... go to autotrader.com and search around your area for all cars and see what you like and is in your price range. Drive what you like, not other people like.

These are some juvenile posts, and some obvious mickey mouse decisions.

Stop looking for ways to piss 12K out the window.

Buy a beater econo box for a few thousand, and save the rest until you can buy something decent ... like an LS1 F-Body, or a WRX, or a Cobra, or a TL ...

I hope you're proud of yourself JinxedZ
Now he'll start a new thread asking for ideas for a beater econo box under $2000 lol

honestly Shawn it sounds like you want a car that does everything for 12k. You can't
stick to one car type... hell... you can't even stick to one thread. News flash, you
will never find a car that does everything. These are cars, NOT freakin transformers.

If you don't know what you want and need suggestions...... Go to a dealer, find a sales man you like and let them help you find what you are looking for. A great salesman will help you pick the right car for you. No one says you have to buy it after you have them run around for you. Just tell them you want to shop around and make sure you get the best price possible and take their business card. Autotrader used to have a section where you could put in options like that and it would help you find the car that would work best for you. I'm not sure if they do that anymore.

Between your 10+ older threads I'm sure damn near every car that comes close to your requirements has been mentioned.
