My bike

Well, Aaron (Phlatcav) posted pics of his bike and 1 of mine. Well here's some more of mine.

Me on the bike for the first time I do have a jacket and gloves for when I go riding longer distances

Re: My bike

OMG!!! No jacket, no boots, shame on you!!!

Just kidding, I like the color scheme. Reminds me of someone else's bike...

No seriously... Where is the gear?

Hopefully your pose on the bike is not the stuff you wear to ride. Honestly, this harrasing gear posts are not to sell more gear or to piss off the gearless. It's for your safety and the safety of others. It's for your friends and family.. It's for your possible future contribution to society.

Sure ya, like the bike.. Sure is clean. Never been a fan of the Kan-a-tuna, but you make it look good

People know they should wear gear, some just don't. If they want to risk it, its no different than a person not wearing a seatbelt or even doing drugs or anything else thats reckless. Its their choice whether or not to wear gear. Stop being nazis and leave the gear posts alone. EVERYONE knows its safest when you do, but not everyone cares.

Re: My bike
Wednesday, May 30, 2007 6:42 AM
Yea please can we just STFU about the damn gear! We wear our @!#$ gear OK!?

Re: My bike
Wednesday, May 30, 2007 7:39 AM
You know why there is a seatbelt law? Not to save your sorry ass but to save other people from having to foot your medical bills. Whether through public funded health care or private insurance, the worse the injuries the more OTHER people have to pay in tax or premium increases. So yes, it is different from drug use (not seatbelts though) and yes, it does affect others. Stop being a selfish dick and wear your gear.. How's that?

My first "please wear your gear" post was mellow and I asked nicely, for your own good. This time I'm telling it like it is. I don't give a rats ass about your personal safety, I don't know you from a hole in the ground. I do care if yet another biker dies for no reason though. I also care that even though I have a perfect record, my premiums continue to rise.

As far as the "Jacket and gloves for longer distance" That's BS.. Most accidents happen close to home (it's true) and I know a guy who nealy died from a fall in a parking lot (hit a curb with his head). All the Gear, All the time, no exceptions. They're called accidents because they are. If you could predict them, you'd avoid them and they wouldn't be accidents, would they? Oh ya.. Don't need legs or feet?

Hear.. Now I'll get back on topic. Warning, you asked for feedback, so now you're getting it.

Hate Suzuki's in general, Katanas are no exception. They are poorly built and unreliable. Aside from fuel pumps in late 90s Kawis, I have not seen any other bike that breaks down even half as much. The paint looks good, but I've never liked pale or mid blues.. For me, blue has to be rich. I think a nice deep blue would look fantastic with the silver.

Those tires are crap and have to go. Do yourself a favour before you bin that thing and get some good sport tires.

Judging by the rust on the header and the chips in the paint, I'd guess that bike was not babied, and considering Suzukis are made out of glass, I'd get a complete inspection done real soon, before it leaves you standed on the highway.

For the girl on the bike. You look a bit stretched, you might consider lowering it an inch.. Not needed really but if it makes you more comfy, mission accomplished, a comfy rider makes fewer mistakes.

Never ride with your hair like that, you'll regret it. Tie it back and stuff it down your jacket. Hair hurts at speed.

Your arm position is out of wack, but you're not actually riding in that pic.

Your clutch lever (and likely the brake lever too) is way to high. losen the clamp and rotate the levers downward so that when in riding position you figers, wrist, and fore arm make a straight line while covering the lever. The way you have it right now will not only be uncomfortable, it could cause you to brake your wrists under hard braking or an impact.

You'll enjoy the Harris grips that are on there. See I can find something positive.

Most off, get out and ride. Do it safely and have fun.

Thanks for your damn concern to our safty but we are not @!#$ kids and your not our parent so drop the @!#$ and let my girl post pics of her bike without you whoring up.

Re: My bike

Again even before you post... STFU!

Re: My bike

Did you read it? I gave you useful info on the bike..
I gave some setup suggestions. They will save pain and make riding better.. Just read it.
I guess you are just too immature to deal with it.

If you actually follow my suggestions, you and she will enjoy the bike more. take it or leave it.

Besides, if you were a confident rider with good sense, you wouldn't react that way. Grow up.
You did ask for feedback. Being a public forum, I'll post as I see fit thanks.

Posting an a public forum.. It's implied. She didn't post the pics so she could look at them online herself did she?

Tell ya what, instead of being an angry prick, why don't you just read the suggestions I made about the bike, forget the gear.. Just the bike. Get good rubber and adjust those clip-ons. That will make her soo much more comfortable. SHe'll enjoy the bike way more. One you NEED to do (eventually anyway) and the other is Free and reversable, just try it.

On top of that, if she wants to fight, let her. It's not your job, even though you think it is, it's not. Do you value her as a person? Is she capable? Then let her. Afterall, it's her thread.

I offered lots of positive stuff if you would bother to read. Instead of feeling insulted, you should be thanking me for the useful input. The setup is wrong and I can help. Heck, I can help with suspension setup too.. Most guys charge for that.

Honestly, do you post "wear your seatbelt" every time someone has pictures of their car? People are gonna do what they're gonna do, it doesn't matter what you tell them. We know you are the resident god of the cycling world, so you don't have to show us your infinite wisdom in every post you make. And we also know that Honda is the greatest company in the world, and everything else is junk, so there's no need to tell anybody that, either.

Hey, all people would have to do is say, "Ya, I wear full gear to ride, this was posing for a picture.", but they don't. Know why? Cause they don't wear gear, know they should, and get all defensive about it because nobody likes to admit a mistake. Riding without gear is a mistake. Posing for a picture without gear isn't. The reactions of those in question tell the story.

Besides, if I say it enough, maybe someone will save some skin someday.

I am not resident God of the cycling world, that's for sure. Most of the bikes posts here are from new riders looking for advice, sorry for offering some.. Wait, no I am not. I will never be sorry for trying to help. I'm willing to bet in a community this large, there are others with more experience than me. I have been riding bikes for 30 years, dirt, trail, track and street but I don't know @!#$ about cruisers or most twins for that matter. So there ya go.

I never said Honda was the greatest company ever, but I do think HRC makes a great bike. I will (likely) never own a Honda car for example, but the bike and other small engine stuff is great. I also Like Kawi, etc.. For that matter, most bikes are good. Suzukis are just the easiest to brake out of the bunch that's all. They make a good bike, just don't drop it and if you ride hard be prepared to do major engine work every 2 or 3 years.

As far as the tuna goes, they are good bikes, more reliable than Suzuki's supersports and supoerbike offerings. A good bike to learn on. I never thought it was a mistake to get a pair at all. So what if I like a darker blue.. So what if I don't put Suzuki at the top of my list. The fact is the major bike makers got there on their own merits, they obviously all make a product good enough to put them at the top of the market.

Seriously, if you are going to survive in the bike community you had better get a thicker skin.. They can be downright brutal with opinion and the few days before a track day the @!#$-talking goes on so badly you feel the need for hip waders. The bike community is just as full of crap talk about branding and whatnot, if not worse.

C'mon.. Just relax and enjoy the ride. Like I said earlier, I will not ever be sorry for trying to help. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Get some gear. Leather jacket and nice thick gloves. As long as you're moving, it's not uncomfortable. If you're sitting in traffic constantly, then you're not riding and probably should just go park it. Grow up. Wearing shorts and tshirts and no gloves is dumb. Not an opinion, it's a proven fact.

Nice bike and I will say this please be careful I just lost 2 good friends last week to a bike accident. Neither of them were wearing gear and gear would not have made a bit of differance in if they lived or died. You already know the risks when you buy a bike so wear what you want and ride safe thats all I gotta say about that.

Re: My bike

Sorry to hear about your friends. Losing friends sucks, I've lost a few myself. RIP
You know that gear would not have helped? They must have hit a solid object at tremendous speed then.

Gear does help. It cannot make miricles. Similar to seatbelts, some accidents just aren't survivable.
That said, gear can make the difference and should not be discounted. I cannot count the number of times I have overheard a nurse or doctor saying "good thing he/she was wearing leathers"

I have lost two friends that were in full leathers. One hit the back of a steaktruck with no running lights at night, at speed. No hope. Myself and another found him about 3 minutes after the accident and didn't recognise him until we ID'd the helmet.
The other cut a fierro in half with a Hurricane 1100 (that's going back a ways). Killed both occupants of the car also. They buried him in his leathers. The leathers held up, it was the sheer force of the impact that killed him.

Leathers can save, but stupid kills.

Ride smart, stay within your limits, and have fun.
