LOS ANGELES -- A batch of camshaft failures in 5.7-liter V-8 engines has dinged the launch of the Toyota Tundra pickup.
Camshafts in 20 engines have snapped, says Toyota spokesman Mike Michels. The outside camshaft supplier, which Toyota declined to identify, has traced the problem to "a metallurgical defect in the casting, a flaw in the metal which they have corrected," he says.
To date, Toyota has built 30,000 of the engines, and the company is determining how many might be affected. Michels says that it was "an early batch," and that "Toyota is confident in the production from that point on."

My take: if they've truly caught it early, and it won't be a problem for many owners down the road, little harm done to their rep. Toyota's rep will only take a serious hit if two things happen:
--major failures out of warranty
--Toyota doesn't step up, and makes customers foot the bill

ah well, it has four humongous doors and can haul 8 million pounds, so it's still badass...
That was my sarcastic voice. I'll take an L-seies, Hemi, or Mod motor over a Toyota any day - their underpowered ratings, worse gas mileage, and inability to last forever like a Yoter be damned
Will this keep it from falling off a ramp over a cliff?
I guess I cant pull that huge conainer off the cliff either.
How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.
That one got an aftermarket camshaft... and a huge ring-gear.
Seriously, 2000 pounds in the bed isn't all that impressive... and this is Toyota's come-uppance... they're getting a taste of why it's hard work to be on top.
i dont care what truck it is , that container woulda pulled anything over the edge if it had the said weight actually in it
i do not think 13" wide tires woulda help it stay stuck
funny their cams are breaking , LOL
link no l;onger works, could you find a new one ?
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
In one of the articles, it stated they will not test every engine, but replace the ones that the problem occurs in?!?! Can you imagine going down the highway and a camshaft snaping! Tell me people won't panic hearing that kind of an explosion.

Want the 4 doors? Oh, there goes your towing capacity.
Want the towing capacity? Oh wait, there goes your seating capacity.
The advertised towing weights are for regular cab long bed setup, while the depicted trucks are crew cabs. I'm a bit of a Toyota nutswinger, but I think they went too far too fast with the claims on the new Tundra.
