Sunday, May 27, 2007 8:43 AM
Hi

Im having a hard time finding A site thats dedicated to the jimmy/Blazer like this fine site is for the j-body.Im looking for some info on this suv

I have the chance to buy a 2002 jimmy sls with 72k on it out the door for 13k

The only thing i have heard bad about this suv is the passlock 2 goes alot and the front end does as well.

But i've also heard that the 4.3 v6 is one of the best engines gm made

If anyone has owned one or could give me acuple forums that would be great

That price is a little high man, I bought my 2003 Blazer ZR2 with 19k miles on it, fully loaded every option but leather and sunroof for 14K Canadian when our dollar was still lower than it is now.
The front ends are the weak spots on these trucks for sure. But the motors are usually pretty decent, like the gas but they push that SUV around pretty well. Also the Auto Trannies in them can be problematic if they're beat on too much. Overall I've had mine for like 5 mnths now and love it, just having the liberty to load it up and head of camping or push the 4WD and head down a trail is great.

Some forums to check our are http://www.blazerforum.com/ or http://zr2usa.com/home.php (even if its not a ZR2 the guys there are pretty helpful!)

Good Luck, and if you have any more questions ask I'll try to help

Well thanks for the info,I will be looking at those sites in a minute and signing up

See I thought that was fair price,As any Gm suv/truck really holds it value good

Not more then three weeks ago I almost bought a 2000 jimmy slt with 117k on it for 9999 and that was before all taxes etc. This was listed for 12,900 but she was going to do the price for 11,500 and then it came up to 13k with taxes.I thought that was a good price seeing im going up 2 years and for the KM's.Autotrader.ca has one for 15,999 and it has 64k on it.

I was never a fan of those ZR2's being a 2 dr and that the 05's were only 2 doors,I would just put a hitch on this cavy and get a trailer if i wanted to go the 2 dr route again.

well i guess it all comes down to what you think its worth. I just know for me the 4 drs arent really needed and i'd rather the ZR2 package, but its all preference. I just know that you will be able to find a better price if you look more man. Most full size GM/SUV's trucks hold their value well. The Blazer/Jimmy....aren't in those categories, I know a couple years ago I looked at them and since then the prices have dropped pretty badly.

I just looked and you're in Canada as well, I suppose I should have checked that before. I suppose for 13 taxes in is a fair price.....but there are better deals out there. Don't rush into anything, shop around and autotrader can be you friend too, try craigslist or local classifieds. I know a lot of people are trying to sell their Blazer/Jimmy due to gas mileage issues....but like I said usually ZR2's have higher resale and I got mine with 30k KMS on it, for 14. that was well below book value, and I lucked in finding a sweet private sale.

Good Luck and whatever you decide I hope you end up happy! I love my blazer and the options of 4WD!

I don't know, my 2001 4-door s10 blazer is still worth $8700 (trade-in value). considering you get screwed royal on a trade in, I'd say that's pretty cool. I want to trade it but i'll wait till the Camaro comes out.

My gf just got a 04 trailblazer, 37k miles for 15,000. I would seriously reconsider or atleast make them mark down the price.

I have a 1996 SLT AWD with 134,000 km good trucks but you have to keep up with the routine maintenance. The engine remote oil filter/ cooler line tend to leak at the crimps on the lines. The engines are very good. The body on mine is still great no rust. Very good hvac. Think about upgrading the brake pads and rotors when you need to do a brake job. The alternators tend to give out around 100,000 km (60,000 miles) from what I hear thats when I rebuilt mine.

Minor problems with the lower intake gasket (Intake problems on a GM...go figure)
Eats ball joints as after-school snacks (every 50K or so it seems)
Oil cooler lines go out on every one. Every one.
The shoe-in-rotor parking brakes get a little screwy every now and then.
Rear rotors are an absolute whore to turn.

Other than that, just normal car troubles.

First off, that is not a good deal. I would say around here it would cost about 7-8k. Chevy trucks hold their value much better than the SUV's. I have owned several blazers. On the 98+ the ball joints and the front bearings can give trouble every once in a while. The brakes on 98+ models are 4wheel disc and the ones on mine stopped VERY well. Parts are very plentiful. It is not very hard to work on yourself, and has a pretty good online backing. Personally, I would look at a trailblazer. They are newer and will have parts still available after the old blazers are obsolete. The MPG is about the same. If I look hard around here, I can find them for around 13-14k with under 100k miles.

Just an idea on values. I am looking at a 95 4 door 4X4 right now that is in perfect shape, but not running well. Guy is asking $500. I plan to fix the maintenance probs it needs and sell it for about $2500. It has just over 100k.

I'm getting a 2001 4x4 4-door S-Blazer with only 22,000 miles on it from a relative for free. I was excited about it but now your all making me wonder if I should hurry up while the trade value is good and ditch it quick. I thought chevy trucks...all trucks were bullet-proof???

Well Thanks Guys for all the info,I did go on to the blazer forum and got more info

Well I bought it on the 31,After going into Courtice a town about 30 mins from me.I went to the big Gm dealer-ship and was shocked to what I saw

They had a 2000 Jimmy whistler edition ,Leather etc etc with 86K's for $12,999.That really got me thinking

Then not more then 5 spots up,a 2003 jimmy sls with 69K for guess what $15,999 with taxes come to over 18K same everything

Heres the story,short forum

So we went back the dealer-ship that had the truck on hold and talked some prices,Towards the middle I raised my voice saying don't give me that BS about you having someone cumming from the native reserve to buy it.All I asked was could I come back on June 1 12:00 after telling my mom the new prices and to hear what she thought. Then this women got very Rude and said you guys are just going to come in tomorrow and try to hagle again.I said look you,we know what the final price is were not going to come back and try to get the price down even more. She was nice as could be after that,in other words don't think your going to try and take us.

Well the owner comes out and sits with my Grandma,I was already in the car waiting to go,As I said we have no deal then and said you need to treat people a little better.I come back in and there he is telling her I have to kids I need to feed.My Grandma goes don't give me that BS my Husband was in the used car business/mechanic business for 40+ years I have heard every line and I raised two kids on his income back in the 60's and 70's.

Well then he just shut up,and trys to start joking with her

This is what I bought
2003 Gmc Jimmy SLS 4x4 with 70K(not a 2002 like the woman said) paid $11,250

The hole reason I bought it

For the people that know whats coming up,This was the perfect choice for me and my business.Plus all I see back there is nice clean slate

May I ask,how do I know when the ball joint goes,Does it pull to the right/left

Also would i need the truck to get a alignment again after its replaced,The things thats really pissing me off,is the fuel gauge it goes up and down and then says i have no gas left when Just put $40 in it not more then 6 hours ago.My mom only took it 30mins tops to on the high-way to courtice to buy flowers.

So whats your name on the blazer forums???

Im trying to find out info on the HD Xenon swap(from 99-00 Envoy) Do I need the headlights or can use mine

Re: 2002 Jimmy Pros-Cons Help!!!

You'll be able to tell when yuou need ball joints when the camber on the tires is all @!#$ up and they start with the // \\ look, or they can clunk. after replacement you'll need an alignment. The MOOG parts have lifetime warranty though, they will wear out just like any other, but they replace them free of charge when they do, all you pay is labour...or do them yourself.

My name on all the forums I'm on is same as here Samsfire. As for the gas gauge.....get used to it they all do it! Mine is similar, if you put it in Neutral gas level will go up, back into Drive, it goes down...its another problem with these rigs. They are pretty hard on gas too, but 40$ most def lasts me longer than 30mins on a highway!

I have no idea on the Xenon swap I just run good Luminics USA Ultra White bulbs in mine, nice and bright, and got a sweet deal on them from Jason @ APlus's last GP. Nice and bright, with a slight bluish tint.
