With the GTP out of commission, and it's future very uncertain, I want to explore what my options would be if I buy something new(er) for the GF.
She doesn't want a small economy car like the Wave or Echo, or anything else like that. $ doors is a must, and I a pretty sure that an auto trans is too.
She likes the G6, so lets start there. What are i4 and V6 options for the G6? What do I lose from the car by going with an i4? How do they stand up to the competition?
What is the competition, what other cars should I look into as well?
Thanks.

Well, I would NEVER buy my Girlfriend a car, if you were married then sure. If you want to stay in the Pontiac family and you are buying it for her, get her a G5.
And so other people know he meant 4 not $.
Yes, I sure did mean 4, not $.
As far as buy it for her, I guess I worded that wrong. I didn't mean purchase for her, hell, she makes twice as much as I do, and I make decent coin. I meant pick out for her. Thus, this post.

Looking for new or used?
The G6 IIRC has an ecotec 2.2 for the I4, a 3500 V6 for the GT, and a 3900 S/C for the GTP's that have the S/C. The I4 has the option of a 5 spd, I believe the only trans for the 6's is a 5 spd auto, but I might be wrong. They come with 4 wheel disc brakes.
Last I researched these was about 4-5 years ago when they were revealed as the replacement for the N-Bodies.
Probably used, but a lease is an idea we are tossing around, as she drives less the 2kms a day. So the anual mileage would never be a factor, plus the full warrenty would be nice, as well as the lower payments for a brand new vehicle.
However, she is like me in that I look a leasing as I look at renting. You are paying, every month for something you don't own.

I was hoping that the i4 would at least be the 2.4 Eco. I am not a fan of the 2.2 Eco.
So v6 it is then, if we go with the G6.

Thanks Sappy, so it is the 2.4 then. Nice, that opens that option back.

Yeah, I was trying to remember off the top of my heeeead... I didn't actually google it this time.
I just went to the pontiac website.

I have dial-up, too much flash on the pontiac website.
Anyway, we looked around today, nothing was open, but got a couple in mind to go look at tomorrow night.
2005 Ponitac G6 GT - this was a really nice car, but I didn't care for the miss-match tires on it. Would want them to replace the rears to match the front.
2007 Dodge Caliber R/T awd - this was also really nice, and being new, there would be no worries about repair costs. The awd would be really sweet, we get a lot of snow around here.
I think we will go drive these tomorrow night, and see what we think.

the G6 GT with the 3.5 gets good gas miles. i have it in my malibu and around city it gets 24. highway it will jump into the high 30s
That pretty good mileage for the G6, no need to even look at the i4 then.
The AWD Caliber still is rated for 27/36mpg. That is nice for AWD I think.
