heres my dillema.
i can either keep my cav and build the motor for over 400hp, but how practical would it really be?
or i could put the cav back to stock, piece it out and trade it in on a 2002 BMW 330xi awd with 40,000miles on it for 16,900. its a 5spd manual and is silver. the plans if i get the BMW are to get the new Active Autowerke twin screw supercharger for the 330xi which will put it to 393hp and a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds and it will be reliable as hell.
what should i do guys and gals. im sorta stuck in my desicion???????
Bonnett wrote:it will be reliable as hell.
um says who?
the cav would probably be more reliable
either way, id personally do neither one
the bmw is nice, but youd definitely need a warranty because if something happens it WILL be very expensive
the cav would probably have less problems, but what would be the drivability of a 400hp fwd econocar? not very good id venture to say
if you want to go fast then id go (hate to say it) f-body for fast cheap thrills, or even a stang (if you dont give a @!#$ about brand)
either way, you could go just as fast with something much more reliable
I've never owned a BMW and don't know anybody that does, but anytime somebody talks about buying a BMW on here one of the first replies is don't own one out of warranty, so there must be some truth to it. Food for thought.

Sold 2/2/05
it still has warranty on it til early 09
and the s/c is also covered under warranty from active autowerke.
the cav is just a summer car, but the real goal with the bmw isnt to go extremely fast as it will still have all of the creature comforts as far as leather, heated seats, navigation, awd and what not, but i was also gonna do cosmetic @!#$ too, not just speed, i want something nice and reliable which BMW is as i have seen many go over 250,000miles. im just asking what people think so thank you for the input. keep it all coming
alright chad, i will just for you lol.. people have been asking forever, but ive been so busy i havent had time, i will get some this weekend
You want reliable gasoline cars? Don't look at German cars.
There is link in the post which a BMW 335i went to the garage after a few laps.

Even C&D had a issue in which one of their reporters almost died in BMW 3-series in a comparo. Search for that one.
Consider Lexus for reliable high-priced cars.

Unless you're getting an engine built by Dinan or AC Schnitzer, you're going to want to buy an extended warranty.
BMW's have begun to get a little spindly on the long term reliability test of late.
I'd keep the Cav, and instead of the 400 hp build up, maybe go for something a little milder, and get another car for daily warrior status.
keep the cav,it's lookin' dam* nice!

Get the M3!!!!
You wont regret it. My buddy has one and its a blast to drive. Gotta love german engineering!

both will be a giant headache might not be right away , but down the line they sure will be
push the cav near 250-275 , and save your money
the cav is at 275 and it just isnt as fun as i thought it would be.
i want something reliable, practical, fun, and luxurious, but idk
how did you attain 275? Do you have hella lag?
its turbocharged, sitting 240whp which equates to around 275hp at the crank
Friends 2000 BMW 328i is FALLING apart. It is sad with only 78,000ish miles on it. Mirrors are all rusty, sunroof is leaking. He BABIES his car, and it is just taking a @!#$ on him. E-brake is freezing, stalling at red lights...at random times. Clutch doesn't feel the same always. Sometimes soft..sometimes hard. Heated seats work "sometimes." Weather stripping looks like it is from a 80's car. Dry rotted and cracked. It was fine until like 62,000ish, and now it is just baking down, piece by piece. When he fixes one thing another one brakes.

German cars are great, as long as they are under warranty, or you very rich. you dont want to pay to fix them out of pocket...and after a few years, you will be fixing them...regularly. how about soething like a CTS-V? caddi luxury and 400hp...they even throw in a 6 speed stick, if shiftin is your thing...

240 at the wheels are your not having fun??
the ION's all stock (besides a drop) and it's a blast to drive, and hell your probably faster than me... only cars i have lost to so far was a modded sti, and a bmw m5, which are both really fast cars...
well anyway i think more hp to the cav, BMW will cost you $$$ in the long run, you can pick up another ecotec from a j-yard for a decent price if anything were ever to happen, good luck doing that with a bmw....
a built ecotec can take some @!#$ and keep ticking. I'd say go for big numbers with hella turbo lag, and then program in a small shot of nitrous on the bottom end, tapering off as the boost comes on. Even such a low power shot will increase the exhaust volume enough to significantly reduce the lag. I had a friend with a similar setup to reduce lag on his honda, using a 45 hp shot at 25-50% duty cycle to spool the turbo on a big boost f20 accord motor.
i dunno how you small displacement turbo guys do it. I thought the lag in a new sti was annoying..... i cant imagine not making power until 4 grand.
