Overhaulin... sort of :P
Thursday, May 10, 2007 8:01 PM
My friends dads birthday is coming up in June, so as a favor we set up something cool for him. What were going to do is on saturday after they left for mexico on vacation, were going to "steal" his 1970 Buick Skylark, then the fun begins When they get back they will obviously call the police to report it, to take care of this, my dad (whos a cop) will take the call as a "personal Favor". Meanwhile my other friends dad (Greg) has his own autobody shop and is going to fix it from head to toe, and give it a custom paint job for free. His son sells rims so he's gunna get us some rims for the car at cost, so this whole thing will cost very little. Then to top it off, when Dave (the victim) goes to the monthly car shoe at the local rec-center, Greg is getting one of his friends to drive the car in and enter it in the show. Midway through the show they will reveal it all to Dave. This is gunna be fun

ya we were worried about the wrong people finding out, but my dad has many friends in alot of the surrounding police detachments, and its a fairly uncommon car, so if it comes up that'll send up a flag and someone will catch it before the call goes out for a stolen car. Im dieing to get some pictures of it when its done Its a fast car lol

I would doubt the police could help you. as a personal favor it wouldnt be a problem but they are active and under oath and pledge. even tho they know your not really stealing it in a negative way, the law doesnt see it liek that. unauthorized taking of a vehicle for any reason.

hope it works out for you. would be sweet.

The way to do it right is to get your dad's cop friend to call them when they get home, and tell them that the car has been stolen and that he's going to try and "push it through" the investigative process as a favour. If you pre-empt his discovery of it's disappearance, you also pre-empt the possibility of someone else catching the case and reporting back to him.

Thats basicly what were gunna do, or possibly were gunna get Daves wife to "call it in", shes obviously in on the whole thing. Then we get my dad to call Dave and tell him that he is going take the case as a personal favor to him. My dad has instructed Daves wife that should Dave get the need to call the local police that she must reveal the whole thing to him.

Stopped down at gregs shop today to see whats going on, they havn't started anything yet but i did get a few before pictures. While im sorting through the pictures i made this, my video camera battery died so no actual video. I used the burst on my camera to put together a stop motion animation of a burnout. Love the sound of that car lol And btw, it is a 69 skylark not a 70 like i thought.

I hope it loads ok, its not very small:

Also we just found out that Greg has offered to completely redo the interior as well so that should be cool. As this is a project being done out of the goodness of some peoples hearts the engine will remain as is except it will be cleaned nicely, greg says he may try to do some things to it if he can get some good deals. Next week is the tear down and body work, ill keep yall posted. Ill try to get some video's up too perhaps. Hopeing to reveal this on Fathers day.

Not 100% sure just yet, he's leaning towards blue, what shade is yet to be determined. He's trying to get an idea for what exactly Dave wants it to look like by what his family is telling him.

Here i threw this together to prove its a 69 not a 70.
On the left is a 69' lark i found on the internet, the right is Daves car:
