The Trident Iceni Headed to Monaco on Single Tank of Biodiesel

A slithery GT coupe powered by GM's 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel? What's next, a Navistar-powered TVR? A Cummins 610 Turbo Morgan? Not so fast -- the Trident Iceni is for real. And with 375 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque, it can get up and go from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and top out at 170 mph. The company's taking orders on the six-figure sportster now. But before it does, it wants to prove the Iceni's fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness, so it's driving one of the cars from the UK to the Top Marques show in Monaco this week on a single tank of biodiesel. That's 900 miles on 26 gallons (and the filler will be sealed, so no clandestine fillups. Let's see a Duramax Silverado top that. – Mike Spinelli

Not only that but it runs on BioDiesel...
Iv been considering a diesel just to run bio diesel in it, and well if i had the money, i would buy that in a heart beat. @!#$ beautiful, eco friendly, plenty of HP, good gas milage, and cheap fuel...

Imagine the burnouts it must do lol

If only GM, Daimler Chrysler and Ford would wake the f**k up and start offering diesel cars here in North America...

VW is the only Diesel Car available IIRC (I think the SMART 4two is a diesel as well, but IDK). I'd rock one of those things, no problem... also do a grease car conversion if I had to.

I would like one too but if there is only 1% of people that would buy them (guestimate) is it worth it to them?

I think the number would be significantly higher... besides, if all it costs is developing an ECU to work with the diesel or borrowing EU engines and making them NA emissions compliant, where's the problem?

Seriously, figure what the sub/compact/small car market has for engine selection, offer a diesel, and I suspect it will not be a money losing proposition at least.

Think of it... you tell people they can drive about 900 kms (or about 2-3 weeks) without refuelling... it's a selling point. (we won't mention turboing the diesel though) If you can get around CAFE, diesel will help out a bit I'd wager. There's really no downside that I can see, but maybe I need glasses.

Yes, another point which you are aware of is the strict diesel restrictions in america.

They're more or less the same here, but they're just as tight in most European countries.

Catalytic converters and soot filters... they do wonders If you use biodiesel, you get even less soot iirc.

now if they can make a car that is that powerful and gets 34mpg whats stopping them from making say a 200hp car that gets 40-50mpg

what is wrong with the automakers, we want this @!#$ now, not in 15 years

Gold plated? phhhhh, Im rocking a solid Platinum with a diamond studded seat..

It Vibrates and makes my bum feel good...

Seriously though,
1. Diesel Restrictions?? What about all the diesel trucks running around. This is going to be fine. Espeically on BioDiesel..Which is even cleaner.
2. Using this diesel to make more power and keep 35mpg is easier than taking a 200hp engine and getting the gas millage up to 45mpg...Theres a little bit of a difference.

even the VW desiels are going away. The Touregs are still Diesels, the jettas are the only other diesels they still have and ever know they are bending the rules selling brand new desiels as 06 special editions because for whatever reason they aren't aloud to have american desiels for 07
