is it me or is almost everybody with a cobalt ss/sc cocky as hell? No matter how modded or unmodded it is? Locally this is a problem and i just wanted to see if it was just my area or what.

I dont think its limited to just cobalts. And its not every owner.

I've seen Kia guys with attitudes. Its not the car, its the person....

Most of the ones that ive seen, the owner isnt really cocky, but its like that for almost any tuner car. Biggest egos come with hondas

It's called SRT4 syndrome. Instead of calling it a Neon, it's a SRT4, instead of a Cobalt, it's a SS/SC.

I gotta agree with a couple points made here...

Some realize that they're decent cars to step up from a J body or the like.
Some think that because they got a supercharger with their eco(in a car heavier than a J mind you), that they're gods gift to the race track.
Some are nice, some are cocky bastards, all are driving cars that are hyped more than what they are.

They are not faster than Evo's
The "I am in denial about what my car actualy is, so I am going to call it a special tag that is on it, noting that it has forced induction(although it's still not a FAST car by any stretch of the imagination)" attitude I have noticed comes with the turbo'ed Neons(yeah I said it, you drive a NEON with a turbo.. go you), and Slowbalt's with superchargers more than any other car owners.
ALTHOUGH, you gotta admit... it's not a Lancer, it's an Evo. It's not an Impreza, it's a STi(or the uber cocky WRX owners, thinking they got an STi). And It's not just ANY 3 series it an M3....

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

You have to take pride in what you have, and honestly the SS is superior to alot of cars, I dont think theres any denying its superior to the J body and theres no denying its inferior to the Stis and Evos of the world. Its on even par with the SRT4. It is what it is. I take pride in having a car that contains 82% US/Canada parts and is built in Lordstown, OH. Dont confuse personal pride in one's car with being cocky.

I will admit its hard to meet an SS owner than can speak about the car for 5 minutes without mentioning "supercharger" (myself included). Its the car's claim to fame and the most notable aspect of it so its hard to not be excited about. Alot of the ego probably comes from the fact that very cheaply you can put it into the low 13s which is enough to embarrass alot of cars or run with STis or EVOs. If you've ever raced an evo and stayed with it or beat it, your going to feel pretty good about yourself. Theres vids on youtube of ppl doing it. When you can run low 13s or high 12s and beat alot of V8s or other boosted 4s theres some percieved penis growth that comes with that.

It also depends on your definition of fast, initially when I first came to this site a number of years ago I thought that high 14s was pretty nice but over time that number has dropped. 4 Bangers in the 13s are a dime a dozen and its really not that impressive, 12s or 11s now thats something to brag about. When it comes to V8s my perception and expectations are even higher because I've spent so much time around 4s. If a V8 cant at least match or better the power from a 4 you cant take it very seriously.

As far as hype I dont think the car gets enough credit, and I really wish that GM would market it a little more aggressively. Back in 05 when it first came out they did some stuff like having free test drives at Nopi around a Auto X track. Having it in shopping malls or car shows. Obviously theres big press about the ecotec in NHRA. I still dont think they are reaching out to the mainstream thats interested in this type of car. You see the occasional mag ad in super street or HCI. Alot of car companies seem to want to ignore the tuner. Theres so much $$$ in this industry, GM is only catching a small piece of the action. Again you have to blame this on poor company leadership and poor market research, problems that have plagued GM for 20 years, not giving the public what it really wants.

Ive had a very different experience with the local north east LSJs

I went to a meet with about 30-40 of them when I still had the cav back in october and they were cool as hell because they were interested in performance mods and not afraid to spend the $$ for decent parts not rediculous fiberglass body kits that make the car look worse and weed whacker exhausts off ebay which was pretty refreshing from the typical J owner crowd. They actually asked me alot of stuff about the L61 and I had some good note comparing sessions with the L61 cobalt and Ion guys.

They were also knowledgable about thier own car which I respect greatly again unlike the majority of other certain groups of car owners. To quote a friend "the cheaper the car, the bigger the tool".

You and I don't get along in the least... mainly because of the fact that I have seen you take on that attitude about your Cobalt..... but I gotta say.... for the most part, this is pretty true.

Right now there's as much cobalt ss than civics on the road.. it's normal that you get a bunch of morons in a big group. The car club I'm in include both J's and Delta cars, sometimes at the friday nights meeting, I see cobalts owners that make me say : gtfo.... we don't want people to think you're with us... Each group have it's retards... put that same guy in a swift and he would probably have the same attitude!!!

You should go over to the Shelby/GT500 forums. There are some arrogant son-of-a-guns on there, especially for a car that's no faster than a Lotus Exige S. I can't remember which forum I visited, but a guy in a thread posted that his Mustang was never Mustang because it was a Shelby, or some ill-logic like that.

I guess arrogance comes with all cars and trims.
