Seriously!
I don't get it... You're going to modify the living bejesus out of the bodywork (at bare minimum) and throw on wheels that are at least 7" larger than the wheels that came standard, not to mention that they're about 10 pounds heavier than stock... On top of that, you're going to destroy the visual balance by adding enough height to a car that already could do a decent job rock-crawling.
No style, diminished functionality, and I can only guess at how the steering and ride is affected... let's not even talk about the insanity of putting on giganto-wheels and leaving the braking system bone stock.
Could someone please explain this to me? I must either be from the wrong planet, or I'm stylisitcally challenged... I really missed the boat on this trend.
everything we do is part of our personal preferences. why would anyone put 13" wire wheels on a car and make it hop up and down. why would anyone put a huge muffler and wings and bodykits on slow economy cars. why would you drive a car thru 6 inches of mud or up a mountain. it has to do with your own sense of style. i wish all the people on this site would get over the fact that people put big chrome rims on a car.

nope. mental deficiencies.
everybody suffers from one physical fault or another (too short, too tall, overweight, too thin, balding, too hairy, etc...). unfortunately, some people let these physical aspects bore into their psyche. Their mind rationales interesting physical counter-measures such as: glam purchases or extreme body modifications.

That's rather self explanitory...
Plus, I don't invest the net worth of my house into boobs, nor do I drive boobs.

I understand that part, but the thing is:
- These cars don't look good... AT ALL
- They look dangerous, as in, either rattle apart or fail to stop in time... nothing more
- I have issue with people that do a lot of cosmetic "upgrades" to their car that are of questionable taste and little use
- I can understand why people go up mountains in Jeeps, but seriously, these cars look like they're almost up to tackling the climb.
- The cars that are being used have one tire in the wrecking yard to begin with.
I don't have a problem with big chrome rims on the car... I have a problem when that's pretty much the sum-total of the modifications on the car, and the car is actually uglier than stock, has FAR less power (because the rims and rubber are way bigger than stock, torque is less than a fart in the wind), and is really only an oddity. The cars aren't even really customs (in my mind) because all they're about it is the rims... a custom is supposed to be a tailored vehicle... these aren't beyond the rim work.
Maybe I'm weird, but I prefer a car where form FOLLOWS function...

anyone that tries to explain why giant chrome rims are a good part of society has my attention
until they end a word with izzle
which is inevitable

- looks are in the eyes of the beholder
- were on a Jbody site and your talking about ratteling apart, these jbodies pratically did that right off the assembly line
-again an apperence comment, everyone has their own taste
- most of these kind of cars are usually from people who would grow up in a less fortunate area, where money = power, things are done diffrently then us in the middle class, when their from there..having the" chevy ridin' high" makes you look like you have money..making you a more important person in that area
- its just turning lemons into lemonade to them
now i dont really agree with the new Donk craze...but I can respect the work they put into it, and if its their passon then i figure let um build on

exactly. everything people say about donks can be said about any car type wheather its a lowrider, mudder, tuner, etc....
its funny because the same people that rag on these cars and call them stupid fail to see half the @!#$ they have on their car or the caterogy they place themselevs in. while donks may not be my taste, im not going to say its retarded, ugly, etc.... i let it be and move on. if thats what the person wants to do then let them.
I always wanted a Trailblazer SS on 26s or 28s. I guess it's just all persoanly preferance, thats all GAM.
dan
dont htose wheels kinda defeat the idea of getting the SS model? the wheels are gonna remove the added performance of the 6.0L engine..may as well get the regular model...IMO.

A lot of the times, someone
has invested the net worth of their house into some of those boobs.
Any while you may not be able to drive them, you certainly can motorboat them.
BTW, my main issue with the "donk" craze isn't the aesthetic aspect. I don't care for the way it looks, but that's my opinion. You know what they say about opinions...
What gets me is how they put a lot of money into the rims, tires, and actually lifting the vehicle. So why the hell wouldn't they put money into a brake system that actually can stop the car when it's in motion. Not having the ability to brake within a reasonable distance just puts them at a higher risk for curbing one of those rims on a little economy car.
I think Top Gear needs to do a braking distance test on some of these cars.
Why would anyone lower a car so low that they can't pull into any parking lots and then put wheels that are 4-5 inches bigger then stock on them so you can't even see the top of the tire? Why would anyone tint their windows so dark that they can't even drive at night? Why would anyone put so many speakers in their car that they can't even be in their car with the radio on? Why? Because they like how it looks/sounds. Everyone has their own taste in cars, houses, women, clothes, etc. That's life.

Well luckily, no one gives a @!#$ what you think
big rims belong on trucks and suvs, atleast to me that makes the most sense.. for cars i like 18's some 19's are alright but even with an upgrade to 17's you should upgrade your brakes i do agree with that..

HalfJ:
I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder... I can deal with that because I've seen some ass-ugly Art-cars and said "to each their own." This is different, you're purposely making a car (whatever the make) get worse gas mileage, less efficient and more prone to accidents.
Modding a car for looks is one thing, I understand that my idea of cool is different than most others, I'm not talking about my ideas of what looks good. Donk cars screw with the proportions of the car (*same as outrageously lowered low-riders with tiny rims and 400 aspect tyres, but I'll get to that in a minute) in a way that not only looks obtuse by making the rims taller than the body is high, but makes the car as maneuverable as a wet rag, and stops only marginally better.
Other than questionable aesthetics and grinding down already low safety standards, what purpose do these cars serve? How many people drive these daily? None and few if any is my guess...
Here's what I'm trying to get at: what's the purpose of doing this to a car when you're going to give up so much otherwise? A low rider that can't get over a flattened median or gets beached on a speedbump or pot hole is pretty useless for anything other than show... If they're primarily show cars, I'll shut up because anyone's idea of what looks good is their own just like their ass
hole. If they're on the roads though, they're dangerous and hopefully only kills the guy who decided this was a good idea.
I have a problem with excessive body kits and such on "tuner" cars... it's like stuffing a pair of socks in your jockey shorts. Save the money and do something to the car that'll give you more than a piss-poor ride, and call attention to yourself for all the wrong reasons.
WannaBzee (aka BadAceDesign) :
No sh
it?
I was asking for explanations beyond questionable taste for modding these cars, because it seems that ungodly large rims take a lot more away from them than add to them. JMHO.

Breast implant jobs aren't THAT expensive, but I suppose that depends on the kind of house we're talking about. A good pair of implants and the surgeon to go with them shouldn't cost more than the average single-wide.
