rut row, another bike thread

anyways.. im looking to buy a new bike. i KNOW this is a frequent subject. im not really asking you guys what i should get, cuz i kind of already have it narrowed down. either the ninja EX 500 or the suzuki GS 500. i know they're in the same class, but im a wee bit skeptical about the suzuki. it looks dope, but im afraid it's probably a lil more dog eared around the edges and i'll get bored quick.. id rather buy new. (i know.. i know..) both are going for about 5k out the door. i don't like the hassel of trying to find a used bike (which in utah, a decent find is almost impossible) but im open to suggestions. i have about 7 years of riding exp. but that was on a dirt bike. so im just throwing this out there, any suggestions are appreciated.

If you've had 7 years on a dirtbike, I think you may get bored of either of those bikes fairly quickly. I've been riding dirtbikes since i was 12, and have a lot of crotchrockets. 600's, 900's, and a 1200. If i were you, i would test ride some 600's. my .02

If he has that much experiance already, I'm guessing the issue is prolly money related...

Unfortunatly, I dont have much to contribute.... except sit on em both and see which one fits you better... but I dont know jack about either of those 2 =\

Maybe Im just pissed, pissed that my freinds are spineless, What else would you
call abandoment some night, when you're in a fight, and they could make things right?
Spineless. I miss some of my old friends, the ones who you could count on,
bet a huge amount on, the fact that they'd always have your back... Its like a kick in
the sack, just knowing, you've got nothing to fall back on. @!#$ this, Im done.

I have heard tons of good things about the Ninja 500 (I've nevber ridden one), and not so much about the Zuk. The SV650 is by far the more popular starter bike from Suzuki.

With some experience yopu could likely start with something a little more peppy. Considering money is the issue, and insurance companies don't know what they are talking about.. You could consider something like the Honda 599. It is a naked bike, considered a "standard" bike by ins. copanies and yet it has the Honda F3 engine, a carbed supersport motor from a few years ago. OR, and this is what I would look for, how about a small 2 stroke, like a RZ350? They have tons of pep, are light and easy to handle.. Well, fairly easy, they are two stroke, and the ins. companies see them as a small slow bike because they are only 350cc. The fact is they can compete with the modern 600s well in everything but top speed. You won't find a new one, but a used one in good shape should be affordable and fun. Something to think about. Yes, it will require more wrenching, but with years of dirt exp. the two stroke should be no problem for you.

What kind of riding are you interested in? Street with a sport bike, track, cruising, lot's of long distance?
