Ok, I have a problem, hoping someone on here who is good with figuring out problems over the internet.
So I was driving down the interstate last night, and all of a sudden my car completely dies, so i caost it to the break-down lane, put it in park and try to restart it, nothing, not even a click, click, click. All my lights work/ cd player, etc... So i called a friend to come jump me, nope that didnt work either. ended up calling a tow truck and had it towed home.
Now, when i get home i try to start it again, nope still nothing. Tried jumping it again (i dont know why) and it actually started to turn over, but only there was a VERY LOUD clunkig noise coming from the engine bay, like it wanted to start but i didnt let it because of the noise. It has oil in it, so I am lost. i can not think of what the hell it could be.
I will take any help.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
is the positive wire and ground connected to the battery, make sure its nice and tight.
yeah, the wires are nice and tight....
i just cant figure it out.
well, sounds like somthings wrong with the starter / solenoid
would that make a loud clunking though?
ok, just spent the last hour or so on the phone with my future father in-law (he is really good with cars) and i checked the things that he told me to check and did the things he told me to do. he said it sounds like an electrical problem.
the battery is ok. the alt. is ok.
any other possible simple solutions it might be:?
anybody around reynoldsburg,oh wanna stop through and check it out,? maybe if someone was there seeing/hearing what its doing rather than on the phone i could maybe figure out what it is.
i dont have enough money for a shop to fix it, and need to fix it though....
any other input would be great
why not check to see if there is gas delivered to the fuel injectors, see if the electrical system is delivering to the spark plugs, see if the air cleaner is clogged, or maybe the timing chain is in need of replacement.
how would i check these things?
im not very good with engines as you can see.
Have you checked for any engine codes?
Have you messed around with any electrical parts within the last week on the car?
Has it even been involved in an accident?
Take the starter out and go get it tested.
haven't checked the engine codes. (dont have the tool for that)
Haven't touched anything on this car electrical, or anything else for that matter.
Never in an accident.
i will have to see where the starter is. ( i dont know where it is)
I'll give you a hint, its in the engine bay
haha....thanks
someone told me it mght be a spark plug, but would that cause it not to start?
Im no mechanic but it might be the plugs if its the first plug which fires first. Or the wires. Better to check your coils, wires and plugs.
ok i will check that tomorrow, i have been moving all day and wont dare mess with it now.
So, it wouldn't try to start unless it had a jump? That sounds like a bad battery, possibly the alternator might not be charging the battery.
Now, as for the noise on cranking.. I would have to hear it, there are so many things that it could be.. I would check your fuel filter. It's in the back of the car, right above the rear axle. It's hard to get off, but once off.. blow through it and see what color the gas is that comes out. I would just replace it though since you have it out. Do a simple tune up as well, spark plugs + wires. See if any of that gets it running, and charge your battery, see if that changes anything for the cranking. Replace it if you have to, and once you get the car running take it somewhere and have the alternator tested.

ok little update.
Still haven't figured out what is wrong with it, but, now it is doing when i try to start it is click, so thats the started, right?
but i still cant figure out why all this other stuff would be happening.
should i just replace the starter and see what happens?
Fuel pump maybe? If everything seems to be working, but it's just not starting.....
ok last update for this: ENGINE is BLOWN. yup just figured it out when a family friend stopped by on his way to the airport (he is a car mechanic) it actually started this time, but the valves are tapping. so i guess its time to try and find a new motor, or just the valves i think?
should i get the whole engine or just get the valves ( i think thats what he said) fixed?
