Monte Carlo will be going bye-bye
Thursday, March 01, 2007 1:49 PM
The Chevrolet Monte Carlo production of the Monte Carlo will end on June 20 with final orders being taken by May 4.
The first Monte Carlos were produced in 1970 and have and survived six generations. Unfortunately, sales for the model have slowed (down over 50% as of Feburary 2007), inevitably the cause for the Monte Carlo's axing.
There is no word yet on whether the name will return to the GM lineup in the future. Sad day for you Nascar fans too.

It doesn't surprise me all that much either. I assumed with the imminent return of the Camaro, something would have to give and it was the Monte Carlo. Hopefully they'll give the name a good 5 - 7 year break and bring in back on a new two door, rear wheel drive platform. The name is marketable...just needs to be on a car that is marketable.

The Monte-Carlo died before already. There was no Monte between 1989 and 1994. It was never meant to be a FWD car anyway. Still, kinda sucks to lose another 2 door. People are so family oriented today with all the sedans and minivans and SUVs.

Funny how that works. There are what; 2.2 kids per family and you need 4 doors? I don't get it.

So what will the next GM Nascar be besides the ugly COT?

A lot of people will no doubt hate me for this but this is the body style I think of when I hear "Monte Carlo". There will always be a soft spot in my heart for G-bodies.

Good guess. That would be mine, too. I saw a commercial earlier this evening on SPEED channel that had Dale Jr driving an Impala SS, so they're probably using that to set the stage for the transisition.

Ah, yeah, I know that there hasn't been a G-body, at least a rear-wheel-drive one, since 1988. The Monte was a g-body, along with the Cutlass, Regal and Grand Prix.

According to the "special" report the Speed Channel did last night on "Cars of the Future" in NASCAR...the Impala SS will be the vehicle used.

the current montes are W-bodies , along with the impala and grand prix

and actually the G-body was a short run , from 70-80 or there about they were A-bodies , im not sure exactly when they switched from A to G

Old News...

Knew about that months ago...

GP production will be done by the end of the year.

Can't say I'm surprised anyways, sales have been slipping for years....

Many dealerships around here stopped ordering them middle of last year-because they couldn't sell the ones they had on the lot.

The MC was pointless to have around anyways...

Hopefully the name doesn't come back...just doesn't bring up good memories......

Why?

Coupes are pointless. Even to those who don't have kids...
