Some progress/ a teaser on the dub
Sunday, February 25, 2007 12:25 PM
I decided not to skimp out and go with any cheap parts on this car and to do everything right the first time. So getting everything together has been a bit slow, but now that I'm working a second job alot of parts are starting to come to me. So I thought I'd make a little progress slash teaser thread.

As she sits right now:

And the new goodies, a Diesel Geek "Panzer" Plate skidplate, and B&G coilovers. For you non VW guys notice the bottom of the shock is also threaded meaning you can lengthen or shorten the body to lower the car rather than moving the spring, therefore lowering the car without losing travel in the strut.

Also in the mail are some new front and rear sway bars, and a T3 Super-60 and some other goodies, more pictures to come soon

Hey man, very nice dub. You mentioned a diesel geek skid plate, is that a TDI? I have a 2001 Jetta 1.8T with a K04 upgrade and APR chip, she runs pretty good...let me know how that t3 super works out. I've been wanting to do that upgrade, but can't really afford the downtime to do an internal replacement with nice supporting parts. Again, nice car though!

looks good, im interested in the point of the skid plate.

Do the front ends of VW's sit so low that you need this to protect oil/tranny pans and things like that?

in reference to the Double thread stuff you mentioned about non vdub guys.....gravanas and teins both have dual adjustment

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

For those who asked, it's a 1.8t bone stock engine, for now

That's different they are adjustable in 2 ways height and dampening. I guess technically these are 3 ways. Height, dampening, and shock body length. So you can actually raise and lower the car without ever moving the perch that the spring is on, unless you want to go SUPER low.

But in regaurds to needing a better skidplate, I think i'll be fine. If you've seen how thick the Diesel Geek plate is, if I manage to bend it I'm going to have more problems than a bent skid plate.

I don'tknow why but I always pictured you having a GTI not a Jetta

I hate hate hate the look of the GTi. I mean I love the difference in weight, but the style of the MKIV is just not something I enjoy. That's why I went with the Jetta. Oh well, that just means I need a few more horsies to compensate for the weight.

I didn't know, I stand corrected.

And it's not the front end of the GTI/golf that i dont like. It's the backend. It's like one of those girls with no butt. I mean she might still be hot, but something just doesn't look right.

Re: Some progress/ a teaser on the dub

Oh and as for summer wheels, I havent decided yet. I'd really like to find some AMG 3 piece wheels and run those. But due to the backspacing and having to run adapters I'm going to need pulled fenders to pull it off and I don't know if thats in the budget right now. So chances are I'll just be picking up some HP Evo's or something similar to run for this summer. Probably staggered, 8.5" front and 9.5" rears.

Interesting...

I think I helped my buddy install those same coillovers on his Jetta a few months ago... They seemed pretty nice, but I was confused on how to set them..he knows how they work... 18 way adjustable, right?

My buddy has a 99 Jetta w/ a golf front end, bozer hood, shaved euro trunk & door moldings w/ a turbo VR swap...

The VR is in, but the turbo is still on order... I'm lookin forward to seeing his car run this summer.. I love VW's, I wanna get a Mark 3 VR golf if I can find one for a good price...

Ok so tonight I took my car over to the Saturn dealership where Josh(aka Minion on here) works. We threw the car up on the lift and got the suspension and the skidplate on in a modest 3 hours including a food break. All in all not too shabby.

The new coils in their bastard of a spindle. I hate hate hate vw spindles, argh!

Who needs a spring compressor? I mean really?

Josh got hungry so he stopped working to eat some asian food

Then we put on the skidplate, anyone who says this thing wont hold up is retarded. It's damn near indestrucable.

A shot of how low my front lip is(note it hasnt settled, and as soon as my sway bars get here I'm going down at least another inch.)

Off to my honeymoon

And a shot of the new stance.

Sorry for the shotty night pictures, I forgot my tripod but meh. A photoshoot is coming soon with my Jetta and Josh's Golf.

So I figured I wasn't low enough. And since I had the car back up on the lift anyway I dropped it a bit more.
