Got a new winter beater
Sunday, February 18, 2007 2:58 PM
It's a 93 Ford Escort LX 1.9L 5 speed. It belonged to a friend of the family, and is a good runnin little car. Only has 13" wheels so the snow tires I got for it, cost me 20/tire brand new Has 132k on the clock, but this is a mazda built car, and it'll do fine. gets like 35 mpg too. for 400 bucks I couldn't say no

And the cav is soon to not be treadin the snow

I'm sure it's not going to remain stock.....I already know he has an engine to toss in which requires a bit of downtime.....

I wish I would've had a beater when my '01 was stock! Woulda saved a lot of wear and tear on the paint I had to have fixed later on from going through 2 winters.

My definition of a beater is a car you don't give a damn about as long as it continues to run, I'm sure that's about what droptoppaul thinks of the escort.

I don't... especially if they're fond of that "nearly stock j-body"

my only problem with beaters is when people jeopardize their welfare by driving
something with poor traction/ a shot heater core etc... during the winter season,
while their awd auto with traction control sits in storage.

hmm...I think some of you got the wrong impression of me and my cav. The cav has quite a bit of money in a new engine, and brand new 0 miles (till i started driving on it of course) and the kit on it now needs paint. It's lowered, meaning my ground clearance is minimal. The car isn't worth much, and I don't owe anything on it, so I hold liability insurance on it. So...in the event of an accident, I pay out of pocket. Conditions in ohio during winter are slick, means my odds of an accident are higher. So i prefer my odds being higher in the escort. However, my cav isn't awd of course, and the escort is in great running condition, doesn't leak oil, heater works great. The car is mechanically sound, just isn't pretty...therefore perfectly fitting my purpose of "beater" I'm not out beating the @!#$ out of this car, just gettin better mileage and preserving my cav hopefully for a few years.

I like my '89 Accord beater better. MIne has pop up headlights. And its a 5-speed, too.

at this point I like yours better too....head gasket blew on the escort. Lasted me a solid 150 miles before it blew. Hope the old owner will make things right with me
