Sort of funny how times change. I recently saw a black Dodge Charger SRT8 pass by and I remember thinking what a really intimidating performance car it is knowning that one stab of the throttle and 425hp will vanquish all but a maybe a handful of performance cars being sold today. However a few seconds later I see a Black 1987 Buick Regal GN pass by and I think, there was a time when that car literally ruled the streets. Now, 245hp turbo V-6 would unfortunately be no match for the 425hp SRT8. I keep wondering if 20 years from now, I'll look at the SRT8 the same way as I look at the GN...

Even in 1987 the camaro was putting close if not more than that. Its not how much the GN puts out thats mean. Its how much you can get out of it so easily. Its like the DSM's and the SRT-4's. Sure they are peppy little cars and off the show room floor they aren't super fast, but its not hard to make them real mean.
i doubt it, most people will look back and see how the 93-02 F-bodies ruled threw there time
The Buick Regal GN's were the fastest American production car from 1984-87. I can't remember reading a single magazine road test of a factory GN that didnt put the other "muscle" cars onto the trailers. Even the 350 IROC or Corvette or Mustang 5.0L GT were not as fast. Of course the difference today is that there are so many more high performance cars to choose from than there was in 1987 that nothing really stands out too much anymore. I do remember being at the drag strip and there were at least 5-6 Buick GN's participating. I also remember being told they were nicknamed "Hairdryers" as the sound the turbo made when spooling up right before the Christmas tree went green.

very few GNs are sitting at 245hp now adays.. although that was the GNX with 245 but id say from owning a gnx and knowing alot of people who do, it wasnt stock...very few are and they are so easy to boost up the power it probably would have stood a fighting chance against it... also i dont know what it is but they hall ASS for even being at say 300hp just somthing about their power band or something...
and if i read your post right rabbit(AKA redassasin) the 87 camaro wasnt in the same league as a 87 turbo buick... they were pretty far a head of the pack in their years

blue car (R.I.P) - 240whp @7psi..
silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno
oh and i retract my statement of the GNX being at 245... i got mixed there... but none the less i still say 90% of the GN's out there are not stock.. might not be hugly moddified but still an easy 350whp is an exhaust, intake and chip

That's a trick question. 20 years from now we won't have any gas left to fuel such car..
I propose that 20 years from now: we'll be riding in Amish wagons drawn by hydrogen powered robo-wolves, Tony Hawk will be a cyborg promoting soylent green to hip teens, 80 will become the new 30, and Michael Jackson will become a translucent monster -- capable of slipping into children's bedrooms unbeknownst to their parents.

soylent green is people don't ya know.
Ok... The GNX is a Great car, and as for this 245 hp crap.. Yea thats what the said. In reality going by todays dynos, a stock GNX put down closer to 280hp. stock, but GM got worried if they told that to people they wouldn't sell and Corvettes and such. A STOCK GNX with a good tire can (not a slick) can get into high 12s. You have to remember that the G bodys were the last Framed cars made. Allowing them to be pretty light for what they are. And as for the SRT-8 psssh. They have all that power but they are tanks( weight wise) and Its not how much Hp you have either. Its how fast you can put it to the ground, thats why the GNs pull so hard cause they go through the RPMS nice an fast because of the turbo.
I just sold my 85 Buick Regal BUILT everything for the most part. They engine running on stock boost with stage 2 heads, and the GN 110 cam (biggest i could go while using the stock ecu) and a few other tiny goodies was 360hp. A bigger turbo and turning up the boost 7-8 psi would put it right around 410-430hp... Talk about being fast. lol.... but speed isn't everything. I love the way my Vette drives and handles so much more, even if it means getting beat by a few cars out there I don't care..
we all kno the regal gs owns

GN/GNX > anything new SRT
don't care the hp difference, I'd love to own a GN

That's true, I'd take a GN anyday over anything new.
