I was looking at this
2005 RX-8 Black on black salvaged title on e-bay whie I was bored. Its not too far from ending at 8,100. It just got me thinking. Thats a steal. Whether you like the RX-8 is not the point. Its fully loaded real clean, but it has a salvaged title.
So my question is would you buy a car with a salvaged title? I know cars with salvaged titles will never re-sale for what it normally would, but then again modded cars dont sell for what you want out of it anyways. Unless of course its a classic. Were not going to go into that. I mean just an everyday car. Like if you were looking for an RX-8 and you found this. Would you pick it up?
Personally i'd have to really really look at it. I've heard stories of people buying used cars and having it for years and then finding out it was wrecked. Some cars you cant tell. I've heard people say they had a car and it was totaled and they fixed it but it just never felt the same. I would have no problem snatching up a good deal with a salvaged title as long as it drove great.
Of course the exception would be a classic collectors car. Salvage title in that would be a big no no.
If you can find out what kind of accident it was in and have a couple people go through it (different eyes catch different things) and it checks out ok, I don't see why not. So to answer your question, yes, I'd do it. But only after a very throrough look over.

If I wanted a project car and the damage was not too extensive, then absolutely. It doesn't make sense to me to go nuts on a car that you paid full price on, knowing that most of the money you put into it will be lost. At least with a salvaged car, you can buy it without really paying for all of that stuff you'll replace anyhow.
I agree with all of the above. As long as you're able to check the vehicle over real good (preferrably by a couple of people) and the test drive goes well, there's no reason not to buy.

well we almost bought a wrecked car. i mean wrecked. it was a little different of a situation though it was a 1LE Camaro, very rare going for only like $2000 if that but i mean it was completely wrecked. would have taken about $20K to get it back to running again but would have never made your money back out of it or ever get the resale value for it. But haveing a 1LE to me was worth it. we foudn a 02 Z instead
well personally it all depends on who did the work and what was wrong with it in the first place. you don't really want a car thats been rolled over and sat on its roof for 5-6 hours do you?? you never know, old bubha down the road could have half ass fixed it for little to nothing and is reselling it. doesn't seem to be the case here, it looks super clean and you'll never find an RX-8 that cheap. if you like it and have the cash, go for it.

Definitely not off ebay, unless it was local and I could go inspect it. But I agree with most everyone here, for project/@!#$ around car, I'd do it.
I work on Wall Street, but didn't force you to take out a loan you couldn't afford.
It's going to go a lot higher than $8100. I'd say 13k +
Some banks won't give out loans on cars with salvage titles, so make sure you have the funds....
I'd do it if it were the right car(something rare or an incredible deal)
buy your martinis shaken. buy your salvage cars barely stirred
modern cars have far too many things thrown out of whack after a collision

Hey rabbit, my dad's built totals for the last 30years.....the j i'm building now yup a total......and yes u get the normal price for them when u sell them. I've bought totals rebuilt them and done great on the resale....Salvage doesn't mean @!#$ really on a title, 90%of the time the car is totaled the frame is more "correct" then out of the factory. I say go for it, My new eco w/ everything i want on it will cost me 1/3rd of the price you can buy it for now. so man good luck keep me up dated

Where?? If you scour ebay or any dealer adds, almost any car that seems to be a really good price is because it has a rebuild title...
Would depend on why it has a bad title. You can get a salvage title if the car is stolen and there is ANY insurance claim afterwards. (so even really minor stuff can cause a salvage title) Would have to be a steal IMO on the price too.

my 05 cavalier could of been fixed after it got rear ended and totaled, just pull one side of the frame out and slap some parts on it and you would of never known, the car would of ran a normal life because the damage really was not that bad.
but it had a salvage title.
so you can pick up a nice deal, but i wouldn't but it over e-bay.
I agree with pretty much everything said. This car was already rebuilt. Just had a salvaged title. I'm not buying it. Its going to be another year or so before I look at a car. Just got me wondering. If I could find a wrecked car that I could do most of the work myself for a fraction of the cost i'd snatch it up.
Just like everyones said though. Depends on what happened and why its totaled. I would NEVER buy a flood or fire damaged car though.

Thats what i wanted to do to...i almost bought that 05 Subaru(if you search) but it fell through....I would snatch something like that up if i could inspect the car first...

my dads been doing this as well for the same amount of time. they have to go through a mech saftey and a structure safety we always told the people it was a total loss.you dont make a pile of money doing it but its profitable. the car should be good but i would get it checked out.
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
Looks like a good car but you never know. I mean it is a 24,000 dollar car without salvage. To totall it out on most insurance companys it would have to be about 75% of the value of the car. Thats like over 18,000 dollars worth of work. That is alot LOL. Granted Mazda parts are rather expensive but that still is alot of work. It says it got hit on the side. both doors and the fender. What they probobly don't tell you is they took the upper rail and pulled the hell out of it and pulled the a pillar and rocker panel. Maybe replaced some of it and like 3 years down the road the whole thing starts to rust. If the car sells for less than 18,000 and they sell it I would be wary of what they did. But that is just me. Again alot of it could be just parts. Very expensive parts.
A while ago we had one of those subaru SVX's come into the shop. We totalled the car out but the insurance company did not. We could not do it for the price the insurance company wanted and they took the car elsewhere. After we told the guy that his car would not be the same and that it should really be totalled he decided to go along with the insurance company. Well they took it to a shop in Staten Island and about 2 years later he comes to us because he is having problems with the car that the other body shop can not fix. The thing was rusting, it had wind noises and a bad suspension problem. Well they did not fix it right because the insurance company did not give them the money to fix it right. So they half assed the car and did no rust prevention on it. Now it leaks water into the car, has rust showing up and can't seem to get a good alignment.
Me I would buy a totalled car like a cavalier. These things totall out quick with minor body work. A car like this is a different story. It could have been done right though for all I know.
salvage cars can be a great deal. i have bought 2 and fixed them. a 2003 Toyota celica for a friend, hit in the front paid $3800 for the car, and $3100 to fix it. $6900 for an 03 with 10,000 KMS on it. not a bad deal at all.
but we saw and drove the car before we bought it. i would never buy a salvage car without seeing the damage itself or at the very least pics of the damage if the car has been repaired. i personally will not buy a rebuilt salvage car. just because i don't know who did the work or if it was done correctly.

I almost bought a 2000 LS1 Camaro that had been hit in the corner, but it was about at my limit to spend just for the car. SS fully loaded leather heated seats etc.. with less then 65k on the clock for 5 grand was good, but I passed because I didn't not have the money to fix it and buy it. Wish I would have though. It wasn't very bad at all really. From my car I can tell you right now rims cost a @!#$ LOAD lol. On a 1991 Z28 Camaro one rim is 586 dollars. Of course you wouldn't need to pay that. If I would have kept it and fixed it myself I could get a whole set for almost that of something aftermarket.
I would only buy a salvage car for parts. I'm looking for a 95-99 DSM AWD for parts.

I would say it depends on the car, what it is and what its for. If its a project car, track car, ect.. somethign that doesn' really get driven much then yes, if your actually gonna drive it I would really think twice about an RX8, in fact I wouldn't think at all about an RX8. I know quite a few people with them and they hate the cars for being horribly unreliable, when you buy a totalled car you have no warranty on anythign, now regular warranty, no powertrain warranty, no emissions warranty, hell you don't ever get recalls anymore. On something reliable or cheap to fix but not on an RX8, hell they annonced the recall not long ago about replacing entire engines in tons and tons and tons of RX8, imagine paying that @!#$ out of pocket.
/\ /\ /\ darkstars==== i built my old 99 jimmy 4x4 from a total and i got all the recalls in the mail just like everyone else. SO yea u do get the factory recalls
well somethign is not right there, at work every car that comes through the door gets run for recalls, on the printout there is a screen with a bunch of info, original owner, in service date, build date, open recalls, vehicle status - if there is a T that means its been totaled and they don not get ANYTHING for free, warranty or recall they don't get @!#$.
