PLEASE HELP - Problem With my Dodge Truck
Monday, January 15, 2007 7:56 PM
This started out of no where. Driving down the road, doing about 50 mph. I get off on an off ramp, and half way down the off ramp, my truck starts this absolutly intense vibration. the whole truck just vibrates down the road so bad, when I got home and got out, my eyes were still vibrating thier sockets. This was bad.
Anyway, it started, and I noticed it stops when slowing. Starting from the red light, when I got to about 25 mph the vibration started again. At 25 mph, I'm in second gear, so it can't be the drive shaft or the U-joints. Besides, there's no movement what-so-ever in the drive shaft.
I thought maybe it was a broken engine mount, or tranny mount but I'm not sure. This is really bugging me too, because I need that truck now...
Please Help me here. I need my truck back!

Motor or trans mount won't cause vibration, at least none that I've ever seen before. Did you hit anything lately, any other issues?
Does it feel like its coming from the front, rear, or whole truck?

It kinda feels like its coming more from the front, but its so bad, the entire truck vibrates.
There is a problem with the steering but I think it's because it needs greasing.
Other than that, there are no other problems that I know of.

Steering CAN cause it to vibrate like crazy! Check your idler arm, pitman arm and tie rods. Then check the "A" arm bushings. I'd bet you've got something broken up there.

Alright thanks. I'll go look at right away.
Just out of curiosity, if it's a tie rod, which I have a feeling it might be, what should I look for? I know the truck still turns, so it can't be snapped or something, but maybe a tie rod end is really really loose. Could that be the problem? What should I look for?
I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot, I'm only in my second semseter of auto tech at college.

Support the suspension from the front and grab the tie-rod to see if they have any play in them. Check the ball joints too. Listen for a loud howling noise when you hit about 40 mph, could be a wheel bearing gone really bad, seen all these on dodges.

Yeah, my friend has a, 85 Dodge POS, and it had a wheel bearing go. I know the wheel bearings are okay, because the only noise I hear is wind howl from my window open or my radio.

I'll take a look at the tie rods and the ball joints.
