Olds seems to lack testicles...

So...replaced the Quadrajet carb for an Edlebrock model (Quad was just a pain in the ass, damn thing wouldn't idle worth a damn, and yes we tried adjusting the idle screw) and also changed out the old fuel pump for a newer model, with slightly higher PSI.

Just wondering if you guys had any suggestions for good ways to help add a little umph.

Going to replace the headers and the exaust plumbing for sure. Just wondering what all else can be done to add a little more power with minimal mechanical experience.

I would figure a cam swap would be good for power, but that would require the removal of the engine from the bay, and I have not the tools or equipment for that.

Wondering if you guys know, or could point me to an area that would show me how to advance the timing a few degrees possibly, just trying to get a little more kick out of the car.

Thanks for the help

sounds like you might have a vac leak spray carb cleaner around the manifold gaskets and around the carb and see if it idles any better.

Oh, the idle has been fixed...the new carb helped that out immensly, the car used to shake like mo-fo, and not in a good way.

The damn Quadrajet...some people swear by them, I can't stand the damn things. Granted it was about 40 years old, but still...

we had the same problem (kinda) with my mustang, the carb was crab so we replaced it with an edelbrock
then that carb was also crap
so after replacing the carb again, we decided to say @!#$ edelbrock and got a demon carb from jegs and had this guy install it and change the timing and whatnot
needless to say, the previous carbs were so bad, sticking your hand over the top of it actually made the car run better, when it should have stalled
and the timing was so far off that the guy was suprised it ran
so after replacing it with the demon carb and getting it timed right it runs like a champ now.
my uncle/my dads brother wont be building a motor for us again thats for sure

^^^^
Yeah, thats what I'm not sure about. I'm just assuming that the carb is ok (but I'm gonna try that trick and see if it stalls)

The guy we bought it from had the engine re-build back to stock specs (except for a .040 overbore) and the shop seem's pretty respectable, so I dunno. I think it just needs a good old fashioned tune-up.

Brakes need to bleed for sure.

Heh, the car just needs work I suppose
