News like this make me real mad. I mean, its clearl GM can develop awesome cars, with awesome motors. But why, we have this crazy 'embargo' for lack another word? In my opinion this looks like one superb pocket racket, size of Chevy Aveo

Opel has shifted into top gear with the new Corsa OPC. The Opel Corsa OPC model is the quintessential expression of the Corsa’s dynamic character, with top-level agility and vehicle control promising pure driving fun. Its 1.6-liter turbo engine with 192 bhp accelerates the compact three-door from zero to 62 mph in 7.2 seconds and enables a top speed of 140 mph. The maximum torque of 170 lb-ft, which can be temporarily increased to over 192 lb-ft via an 'overboost' function, is delivered to the front wheels by the standard six-speed transmission. This level of performance provides the newest member of the sporty OPC family with superb propulsion power in all driving situations. The Corsa OPC requires 7.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, a moderate figure in this performance class. It makes its world premiere at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show in early March, shortly before its market launch.
The top-of-the-line Corsa OPC’s look also reflects pure sportiness. The roof spoiler, as well as the powerful front and rear aprons with distinctive gill-like air intakes and outlets make the OPC a real eye-catcher. Elements such as the darkly contrasting diffuser with integrated, centrally located triangular tailpipe and specially designed exterior mirrors are just a few examples of how much attention to detail was put into further developing the Corsa’s bold, sporty character.
The Corsa OPC’s chassis has a unique, even sportier character thanks to extensive modifications. Through intensive tuning drives on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, engineers were able to achieve a sophisticated balance of agile handling and pronounced vehicle control. Key modifications include a stronger rear axle profile and adjusted torsion beam rear axle weld-in angle, new spring/dampener tuning, lowering of the chassis by 0.4 inch and a larger stabilizer. The standard ESP system, which can be deactivated, has also been tuned to the car’s sporty character. The new Corsa OPC comes with 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/45 R17 tires ex works, while 18-inch rims and size 225 tires are available as an option. The large 16-inch brake system with blue painted brake calipers ensures powerful deceleration: the Corsa OPC boasts internally ventilated, 308 mm front disk brakes and 264 mm disk brakes at the rear.
Sportiness also dominates the Corsa OPC’s cockpit. In addition to the typical OPC door sills, chrome-ringed instruments with red pointers and blue-ringed air vents (also available in silver), the flat-bottomed leather sports steering wheel is especially eye-catching. Also reminiscent of motor sport vehicles, the steering wheel features a blue (or optionally silver) ring at its crown, while the center console in piano lacquer finish and aluminum pedals underline the sporty, high quality ambience. Particularly striking are the newly developed Recaro sports seats with integrated head restraints. The race-car-like seats protect both the driver and front passenger with integrated side airbags - a world premiere for this type of seat.
“The OPC models embody pure sportiness, infusing the brand with emotion and passion. That is why the OPC version fits brilliantly to the new Corsa, which is positioned as a young car offering plenty of fun,” says Alain Visser, Executive Director, European Opel Marketing.

Damn... I'd rock that if it were just me driving.
I think the reason that these great little cars aren't making it here: Gas Prices. If they're low enough that you can afford a mid-sized car and the gas, you're not going to want to save the money.
And now for something completely different... Click the Minister.
Well, Saturn is starting the cross-overs. The new Aura is based on a mid-sized Opel. Perhaps GM can do away with the Aveo and replace it with the Corsa OPC. I've always wanted a Corsa, even previous models. Perhaps the next trend in the scene will be EDM? European domestic martket?
kinda looks like that 4 door chevy concept
I'll take one to replace my Sunfire. GM are you listening?

There are a few similarities, but overall its a much different car. Too bad because I like the sharp lines on the WTCC concept. This is still a very nice hatch though.

Crazy idea.....but what if?
Mr. Goodwrench posted a story not too long ago here that the Opel Corsa WILL be sold in N.A. by
the next generation.
I say that this current car is the platform and powertrain that will be the basis of the N.A. version
that will closely resemble the WTCC concept. In my opinion the WTCC was a test to gauge people
on what they think of a "Chevy" hot hatch.
Becuase I always found it odd that this concept was called a "Chevrolet" when there is no actual
production version to match it too. Must mean a production car is not to far out then, and when that
day comes...I say it's a reskined Corsa.

It is a much different car because that model is a Daewoo and not a Opel.
Also....
If any one is interest, but this WTCC will be in our shores at next weeks Detroit Auto show, so if you are nearby, you can check it out upclose and personal.

Jooky is right. Here is the thread if you all like to read.

Also in Europe and many other countries, Chevy exists, but they use Daewoo products.
But I'd like to add...
This Opel Corsa [on this thread] will probably the last "Opel based" Corsa. Atleast for now.
When the new one arrives, it will be under the new "Gamma" platform which GM will use Daewoo for their sub-compact architecture. So the Chevy WTCC may be the next "Corsa" to come---albeit watered down ofcourse.
Why Daewoo? Cost mostly as Daewoos are much cheaper to produce as this category of cars is already hard to get any profit out of. Also being cheaper and easier to produce, GM said that they can produce these cars in 2nd & 3rd world countries easier as their resources are limited and don't require sophisticated building.
Yhea, we (may) be lucked out in the end. But time will tell if we really will be.

After living in Italy for 2 years, seeing small cars like that was a completely common everyday occurence. At first it took me a while to get used to. They were more into full saving cars than big fast ones. Plus, with the streets being so much narrower, smaller is better. Our Jetta was a big car over there. If I had a chance to bring one back, it would have been an older Fiat 500. It was probably weak and slow, but it was cool looking. Americans for the most part want the biggest most powerful things and that translates into our cars. Does anyone really need a Suburban? lol
Ditch the crappy Aveo, and put this in it's place.. Oh wait, this is GM we're talking about. Nevermind.
Red 2005 Saturn Ion-3 Coupe
Damn?? This is a GM?? Looks almost like a Mazda. Looks awesome, and the interior is badass. Yet, we get the Aveo
...
i love my big cars , always have and always will
my first car was a chevy vega , and i loved it , nothing better for getting through rush hour traffis than a small light car that can turn on a dime and give ya change
id take the corsa as is in the pics above
and if GM brought over a few of the higher power diesel 4's , they would prob take VW off the map
