Remember the rumor that was swirling late last year that there will be a "4-door Mustang?" Well, Ford made it clear at a press event, that it will never happen! lol
Ford will be testing the water with a 4-door, RWD, high performance V8 powered car. It will be out to see public reaction and also since DCX has the Charger/300C and GM is bringing the Zeta platform (Holden Commodore) from Australia in 2008, expect this model to play a role in Ford's struggling line up in the future.
Based on the latest Mustang platform but stretched. Underneath the hood you'll find a 400 horsepower, 5.0-liter Ford Racing V-8 Cammer engine, running on E-85 ethanol - an upgraded version of the 4.6-liter V-8 in the production Mustang GT. Like the Mustang, the Interceptor Concept is rear-wheel drive and uses a six-speed gearbox.

i hope ford isn't goign to try and make that a police car
does anyone think the tails lights remind them of a fairlane or galaxy?
i think if ford makes better, more exciting cars like the Fusion and the Mustang, then they will be better off
this could be one of those cars
personally i like the charger/300's better
although i think a yugo looks better than that ford , ida liked a 4dr stang alot better , lol

I wish there was a pic of the front end directly. It doesn't look too bad from the side. I think the rear is ugly though.

It's unique to say the least but the front end just feels like it's unfinished, like they through a bunch of different things at it and hoped that something stuck. As long as they don't call it a Mustang, then it's cool with me...but like everybody else has already stated, Ford is a little late to the game. That doesn't mean they can't catch up.
Looking at the rear, I'm wondering where are they going to incorporate the reverse/back up lights.
I'm confused.
ok, so this is based on a stretched Mustang platform. But isn't the current Mustang based on a shortened Lincoln LS platform???
I'm 90% sure i'm right on that.
so wouldn't a stretched Mustang then just be a Lincoln LS again?
Either way that's a hot sedan.

That is ugly as hell. I really don't comment much on new cars but this is ugly. It looks like they reinvented the brick. All it needs is a VOLVO badge on it. Not my cup of tee.
Is it just me.... or does the front end remind you of a Silverado
either way, its not to bad looking

I agree, it looks like they slapped a truck front end onto a 300c, some Land Rover into the fenders and a rear that I have no clue what to call.....Its nice as a concept but as a production vehicle? I don't know.
Not only are they trying to capitalize on the success of Chrysler/Dodge and their cars..............
That's the same "neon graveyard" that a lot of the original Charger promotion photos were taken. I think they still have some of those on the Dodge website.

what a ripoff
a beautiful ripoff but still a ripoff
at least it not a Taurus.
<~~~~PWN3D!!
i like it,
but this picture
reminds me of this style of "Rydin"

Kinda like the new Chargers? lol Everytime I look at one of them, I can help but see a slammed Dodge Ram... Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are that bad looking but there's something about them that seems kind of part car, part truck if you know what I mean. Just doesn't seem right, lol. The new Challenger is still probably one of the hottest of the concepts to come around though and very nostalgic. I kind of like the new Camaro more just because it is a more modern interpretation of the old school camaros. This Interceptor just seems a little bland. Not much really going for it. At least you can tell it wore braces growing up because it's got a perfect set of choppers up front, lol.

it won't look anything like that when it comes out
Two wrongs don't make a right. Unless you're Chuck Norris.
Then two wrongs make a roundhouse kick to the face.
I like the overall lok of it. It definitley looks American. How long has it been since the name of the car was badged on the rear quarter? The ass end is kinda odd looking i guess. But overall the car has a very clean look about it. It looks infintley better than any sedan in fords lineup now. The 5.0 400hp six speed setup sounds friggin awsome. Hopefully ford can turn things around and start building some sweet cars again.
Steve
My other car is an interceptor.

I noticed that badging too. It's been a long time, but if they start reaching way back. Hell, I'd give them props for that. I kinda like it, but it is a rip off. If they like the idea of that type of sedan, then something more attractive will come out.
Morons. (Ford)
What they lack to save their ass is a bread and butter car to sell to the masses. Cavalier. Impala. Lumina. Those kind of cars sold, resold and kept the gravy coming for GM. Early to mid 90s the Tuarus's with the 3.0Ls were great @!#$-kickers. Theyv'e lost that car. Fusion does nothing for me. I hate it. The Five Hundred is a disfigured, overgrown Focus sedan. The Focus compared to the Mazda 3.. um.. @!#$ garbage.
This is not the car they need to build... aaannnnd it looks like @!#$ anyways.
Blah blah just like the 300 they make the doors really tall to compensate and give the impression that the top of the car is 'chopped' like old hot rodders. I'm not sure how many people noticed this, perhaps it was this that made the 300 so popular.
After the recent numbers with Ford and GM, they both need to come out with something that has some appeal because what they have now won't due but this probably won't help. The tail lights may seem somewhat fairlane (an obese 60s fairlane) or galaxy but come on.
Geeds you have the right idea it wont be a cop car. It seems to inconceivable with that design even though fairlanes were the old interceptors of the time but it just seems like a silly design that has no point.
How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.

those were never "bread and butter" cars for GM
